The court found that Lasertek reconditioned and refilled one-time-use IBM LaserPrinter toner cartridges and remarketed them in packages designed to mimic IBM toner cartridge packaging. ALLIED-SIGNAL GAINS NASA DEAL: Allied-Signal Inc. said Wednesday it has been awarded an $18 million contract by NASA to develop and test a new type of solar power system. Known as a solar dynamic power system, it could be used in future space applications and may prove to be twice as efficient as current solar panels, Allied-Signal said. Tests are slated for mid-1995 at NASA's Lewis Research Center in Cleveland. DIGITAL BUYS 800-SOFTWARE: Digital Equipment Corp. said Wednesday it has acquired 800-SOFTWARE of Point Richmond, Calif., a personal computer software and accessories distributor. Digital said 800-SOFTWARE will continue its focus on non-Digital software and hardware, and retain its current management. Terms weren't disclosed. 800-SOFTWARE had revenues of $77 million in 1991, Digital said. DIGITAL OPENS UKRAINE OFFICE: Digital Equipment Corp. has opened a subsidiary in Kiev, Ukraine, the firm said Wednesday. Digital Equipment Ukraine currently has 10 employees and will locally recruit 20 more, as well as open additional offices in the Ukraine, Digital said. The subsidiary will sell the entire range of Digital's products. PATRIOT DEVELOPING GROUND RADAR: Patriot Scientific Corp. said Wednesday it is developing an updated prototype of its Ground Penetrating Radar. During its initial testing phase, the radar was able to penetrate the earth's surface over 100 feet and provide a cross-sectional, color-enhanced picture on a TV monitor showing sub-surface objects as small as 12 inches in diameter, Patriot said. NORRIS BUYS CADCO: Norris Communications Corp. said Wednesday it has acquired Cadco Engineering Inc., a San Diego based company specializing in computer-aided design, industrial design and documentation for electronics products. Terms weren't disclosed. Norris is a manufacturer of electronic products for the telecommunications, aerospace, computer and medical industries. REFLECTONE TO MAKE SIMULATOR: Reflectone Inc. has received a contract from Southwest Airlines Inc. to build a Boeing 737-300 aircraft flight simulator, the firms said Wednesday. Reflectone will use display technology from McDonnell Douglas Corp. to simulate weather and lighting conditions. Reflectone says it will deliver the simulator next year. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. NANTUCKET CORP. IS ACQUIRED: Computer Associates International Inc. said Wednesday it has completed the acquisition of privately-held Nantucket Corp., a developer of dBase:xBase-compatible application development systems. The purchase price was not disclosed. More than 300,000 copies have been sold of Clipper 5.0, Nantucket's flagship product. OPTICAL STORAGE GROUP FORMS: The Optical Storage Trade Association was formed Wednesday by 25 representatives from 18 optical data storage companies. The association will concentrate on promoting optical drives as well as related peripherals for computer data storage applications. The new organization will be formally launched at the first OSTA conference scheduled June 24 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif. MOBILE SELLS PLANT: Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. said Wednesday it has sold Paging Systems Ltd., its only manufacturing operation, to Multitone Electronics of London. Terms weren't disclosed. Mobile Telecommunications said it will continue to operate its main United Kingdom business, Inter-City Paging Ltd., which provides nationwide paging service to over 40,000 subscribers. SYSTEM LINKS STOCK EXCHANGES: A system-to-system link between the Montreal and Boston Stock Exchanges was officially inaugurated Wednesday. It has been operating since May. It allows Montreal Exchange member firms to electronically route retail orders for U.S. securities directly to the Boston Stock Exchange for automatic execution and confirmation.
