Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 04/17/2006


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by jbarnold.

Sucks Report:

	The following things suck: postscript, Fuse, CBC, Patriot's Day

	Editor's Note: Forgetting to pick a Secretary before start of meeting.

	Editor's Note: The failure to include a person, object,
		service, restaurant, software package or distribution,
		set of ideals, or holiday in this list of things that
		suck should not be taken as an indication that said
		item does not suck.

Treasurer's Report:

	jhawk: I'm here.

	jbarnold: You were asked at last meeting to produce a report
		on finances.

	jhawk: Nobody sent mail, so I don't have it.

Chairman's Report:

MIT Computing Report:

	jhawk: The Stellar website now has an easier way to find
		classes, as evidenced by a big yellow button on the
		front page.

	mathmike: It's the same color as the border.

SIPB Projects Report:

	tabbott: The Linerva project is making good progress.  We will
		hopefully have a public SIPB beta later this week.

	jbarnold: Scripts distirbuted its first security patches to
		wikis, blogs, and whatever else people have
		installed.

Office Report:

	jhawk: We now have a copy of the 3rd edition of the Postscript
		Language Reference manual, though  two signatures seem
		to have some sort of cross-modulation defect, though I
		don't think aynone else will notice.

	cfdoming: The power supply fan on opus is dying, which is the
		cause of the repeated failures.

	tabbott: Maybe we should do something about that.

	jhawk: That's why we pay Athena service fees.

	[some confusion as to whether this a comment about which
		report this is].

	jbarnold: How does someone deal?

	jhawk: Email hotline.

	jbarnold: Do you (cfdoming) want to deal?

	cfdoming: Sure, though I don't know what to do.

	jbarnold: John, why don't you tell him how to deal.


	tabbott: We should look at the currently broken chairs after
		the meeting, since we seem to have a few that are
		messed up.

	jhawk: I'd like to remind the SIPB that most of our chairs are
		covered under warranty.


	jhawk: I updated the firmware on meadow, as described in email
		to sipb-office, but this did not fix my problem.

	jtu: Post-meeting food at La Groceria.

	tabbott: 6.115 Lab 5 is due Wednesday.

Other Other:

	jwalden: With Firefox, there's a custom code branch of firefox
		that now passes the Acid2 test, which tests various
		not-well-supported CSS functionality.

	jhawk: There was a CERT advisory today detailing several
		vulnerabilities in Firefox, that's fixed in some
		version.

	cfdoming: 1.5.0.2
