Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 07/10/2006


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by tabbott.

Treasurer's Report:
	jhawk: Apparently, rumors of our budget reduction have been
		exaggerated.  We have $200 more than last year.

SIPB Projects Report:
	jhawk: All the memory I bought is not the right memory.  It's
		likely not what the vendor said it was.

	tabbott: Anders and I got general-dink running xen.  It can run
		fully virtualized virtual machines.  Aside from a
		power-loss incident, it has not crashed as long as we
		don't do anything involving X.  Xen support for
		graphical things seems to be pretty poor.  One can also
		get a serial console with a lot of effort.
	jhawk: What's the long term plan for its location?
	tabbott: The original plan was to run a virtual Athena machine
		on it so it could be used as an office head.  It's
		unclear if that will work.

	tabbott: Anders and I have also been working on packaging our
		Athena Debian packages.  It only slightly violates
		Debian policy and deals with installing and removing
		configuration files.

Office Report:
	cfdoming: opus is dead again.
	tabbott: It was missing some Athena packages.  The reinstall has
		failed repeatedly.  badblocks doesn't turn up anything,
		so it may be memory errors.
	yoz: Is this with the new HD?
	tabbott: Yes.  I suspect the memory.

Office Cleaning Report:
	tabbott: The open table spaces are mostly still open.

Publications Report:
	jhawk: iAFS and iLaTeX arrived today.  When people update
		documents, they should mention it over email or at a
		meeting.

	tabbott: We received Ubuntu CDs addressed to Kevin Chen.
		danjared also got some.

	jhawk: People reproducing documents might check that there are
		no un-checked-in changes to documents before reproducing
		them.

CokeComm Report:

Orientation Report:
	tabbott: July 15th is the date for requesting an Activities
		Midway booth.  I haven't heard back from Keith about a
		table for Sportcast, so I'll assume they don't want one.
	jhawk: Keith says "Yes Sportcast will have some demo at the
		Midway.  We'll make an effort not to get in anyone's
		way."
	tabbott: Tell him to respond to my email.
