Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2008-06-30


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by price.

In attendance were

Officer Reports:

	price: Any budget updates?
	kaduk: I'm checking now, but not as of last week.
	[time, and the rest of the meeting, passes]
	kaduk: As far as I can tell, we don't have an FY09 budget in SAP.
		Perhaps I just can't find it.
	price: Okay, well, the year starts tomorrow, so hopefully we'll
		hear something soon.

SIPB Projects Report:

	kaduk: I updated iZephyr a little.  It now mentions barnowl instead
		of owl.  There is still much work that remains to be done.

	price: We got e-mail from IS&T inquiring about signs for clusters,
		with an offer to post signs for us advertising what SIPB
		can do for users.  I think this is a good opportunity;
		users spend lots of time in clusters and look at signs
		if they're bored.  It would be nice if someone volunteered
		to make up a (not too complicated) sign, like a one-page
		PDF saying what we do for users.
	mitchb: This sounds very much like the left panel of the whiteboard
		in the hallway.
	kaduk: Which geofft recently revitalized.
	mitchb: So, if I put "geofft will deal" in the minutes, we're done?
	someone: Done, but maybe not correctly.
	mitchb: Yeah, but he's admitted being foolish enough to let us
		allocate his time.
	xavid: I can make a sign.

Office Report:

	jhawk: The perimeter air handler by the fridge developed a clogged
		condensate drain and spilled water on the carpet all the way
		to the monolith sometime around Sunday.  The carpet has been
		dried, and the clog relieved.
	arolfe: What clogged it?
	jhawk: Probably algae, as usual.  Also, some stuff on top of the
		fridge was moved when we needed to move the fridge, and
		hasn't been put back yet.

	price: A week or two ago, geofft and I moved some computers around,
		mainly to get kid-icarus out of laptop land.  It's now in
		the hotseat position where cutter-john used to be, and has
		one of the 24" monitors.  Both hotseats have those monitors
		now.  cutter-john is now in the spot where zsr used to be,
		and zsr has been moved to eurolaptop.

Other:

	rsuri: I'm a grad student who just started a software company and am
		looking for new members to join the team.  I'm a developer
		myself.  The concept is consumer devices at tables in
		restaurants.  It will do things like ordering and paying, but
		other stuff, too.  Work includes designing an interface, etc.
	price: People can talk about this after the meeting, if interested.

	asedeno: The jabber server has been bouncing a lot this week, most
		recently at 6pm.  Last week it was to get interactions between
		MIT's jabber server and jis's working again.

	mitchb: The W20 Ops subnet fell off of the network today.  I'm not
		sure why yet.

	keithw: It's nice out today.  I spent the last hour at the sailing
		pavilion on a catamaran.

	mathmike: I spent 9-5 indoors at my first day of work.
