Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2008-09-01


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by price.

In attendance were 
	Voting members: price, jhawk, mitchb, neboat, nelhage, geofft,

Officer Reports:

	price: We're having Orientation events.

	nelhage: The EC voted over e-mail to approve money for publicity that
		we forgot to request at the meeting.  We allocated $75 for
		soda at the midway, and $150 for pizza and such at the pizza
		party.  Both events were successful; we got lots of names
		(about 4 pages of them).

	geofft: Stories will be 8pm this Wednesday in 4-231, and tours will
		meet in Lobby 7 at 6pm, then go to W91, get a tour from the
		shift leader, and meet up with jis in W92.  I move to
		allocate $100 for food for stories.

	price: After forgetting to allocate money for food, we also forgot
		to ask the EC to allocate for flyers.  I move to allocate
		$25 to geofft for last Friday's flyers.
	geofft: Friendly amendment to increase it to $40 to also cover flyers
		for the upcoming events this week.
	price: That's friendly.

	kaduk: My laptop appears to have died.  This makes it harder to check
		SAP.  I also have been away for 2 weeks.

SIPB Projects Report:

	geofft: scripts now has a svn virtual hosting service.  It hasn't been
		formally announced, but is presently usable.  If you make a
		directory called Scripts/svn in your locker, we'll host out of
		that.  Eventually, we'd like to stop making a ton of
		directories in the top level of your locker, so things will
		eventually go under /mit/lockername/Scripts/service.
		svn://locker.scripts/ will access the repositories.  We might
		be the first group to do svn virtual hosting.  Hopefully in
		an hour or so, we'll also have git virtual hosting out of
		Scripts/git.

	nelhage: barnowl has migrated to debian-testing from unstable.  It was
		blocked for a while by a release-critical bug filed by
		hartmans.  We haven't figured out what's wrong exactly, but
		we've determined that it only seems to affect hartmans, and
		so is not actually release-critical.

Office Report:

	jhawk: Our green tape measure seems to be missing.

	price: There's much more soda in Cokecomm, thanks I think to the
		Midway purchase.

	geofft: We're down to our last 3.5" floppy disk.
	kaduk: I think that's been the case for a while.
	geofft: No, we had two.
	mitchb: *opens mouth* ... *shuts mouth*
	price: What?
	mitchb: I'm just trying to figure out how many iDocuments that you
		don't want me to photocopy any more would fit on that floppy.
	kaduk: I move to allocate up to $20 to buy floppies.

Other:

	jhawk: There's been a problem with mutt deleting messages from the
		Cyrus IMAP server.  If you're feeling adventurous, you might
		try mutt-jhawk.broken in the sipb locker.  This longstanding
		breakage will probably be fixed fairly soon.

	afarrell: Oh, we're out of Starburst.
