Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2011-06-20 The meeting was called to order at 19:30:00 by dwilson. In attendance were Voting members: dwilson lizdenys kaduk cesium geofft dhanus phurst Associate members: asedeno quentin jhawk Prospectives: maria89 abelay Guests: Veronica Hanus Administrivia: dwilson: Welcome to the SIPB meeting. SIPB Project Updates kaduk: openafs version 1.6.0pre6 was committed to the FreeBSD ports. geofft: Also to scripts, thanks to kaduk. lizdenys: We're starting a new project: collaborative text editing mixed with Google Wave minus all the parts we didn't want of Wave. We also want it to work. It's called "Waverly" for "WAVE RLY?" and if you want to discuss it or get involved in it get on waverly@mit.edu. geofft: Debathena natty is closer to usable. openafs will be using dkms so you don't have to wait for us to build modules, but you do have to build modules. geofft: There's some discussion about starting a project to do something interesting with Yubikeys, a hackable one-time password/hardware token device. Fedora uses this for authentication, and their folks are trying to get it in the KDC. Quentin is using one for Google? quentin: Everyone who works for Google is using them. geofft: People want to use them in different places or in place of the RSA tokens. We should get a Yubikey server up for SIPB. If you are interested, talk to me or someone else on the yubikey@mit.edu list to get added to the list. We may later think about getting a number of Yubikeys for SIPB members to use maintaining services or others to buy. quentin: They're like 5 dollars. dwilson: We're not allocating for it now, though right? geofft: Right. Also for a dollar more, we can get grumpy fuzzball Yubikeys. Other: dwilson: A hackathon by several local startups called Hack Reduce will be happening soon. Built around working with large data sets with hadoop and similar things. This Saturday at Microsoft NERD. SIPB is not formally involved, but we have been contacted by some of the startups to pass on this information. If interested, go to hackreduce.org. quentin: jdreed is awesome: he replaced a half-broken cluster machine at 9:30 pm after hearing it was broken at 7:30 on a Sunday. geofft: SIPB reading group seems to have started up again. Add yourself to sipb-reading-group@mit.edu since we won't be cc'ing sipb-office@mit.edu anymore. kaduk: I bought more hand lotion but didn't bring it today. Other Other: lizdenys: geofft and I are writing a mass. dwilson: Mass of what? geofft: Cowbell dubstep. lizdenys: That's a different mass. jhawk: The CF to USB reader for our oscilloscope seems to have gone missing. It's goofy looking with a hemisphere. dwilson: I have not seen it. jhawk: quentin: We may have reduced the number that we have at some office cleaning? Veronica Hanus: Someone should prospectivize me. dwilson: We can do this after the meeting. lizdenys: Deborah, you should! dhanus: I think it would be better if someone else did. The meeting was adjourned at 19:38. Minutes taken and submitted by lizdenys.
