Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2012-09-17 The meeting was called to order at bbaren by . Cyrus IMAP is scheduled to be decommissioned, everybody is moving to Exchange. Many people have concerns about this, and jdreed would like to assemble a list of technical issues/concerns, especially with enough information to reproduce if it's an actual bug. jhawk: What are we supposed to test against, sipbexch? kaduk: That would work. jhawk: My vague impression is that many problems deal with scaling. kaduk: John mentioned some things on zephyr about how if you have a company that had an Exchange deployment, and something works/doesn't work there, that'd be worth mentioning. achernya: Does this mean we can complain that searching through imap.exchange is really slow? kaduk: If you can quantify, yeah. bbaren: I think his response will be 'don't use pine'. jhawk: Really? I think pine is the number one client people will complain about. bbaren: I should explain that I meant that that would be his personal response, but not his professional response. kaduk: We've heard possible issues with pgp/mime multipart messages being corrupted, but nobody has any actual examples. We'd like to hear about one. bbaren: SIPB has been asked to submit a representative to the IS&T Student Technology Advisory Board, or ISTAB. ISTAB meets every six weeks or so... nelhage: You should cook more often, it's good for you. christy: I'm sorry? nelhage: I stab meats every six weeks or so. bbaren: Anyway, they're about 60-90 minutes, there are 7 representatives, you meet with jdreed for a while, and talk about changes to the MIT student computing environment. Your responsibility would be to provide advice to ISTAB and jdreed about how SIPB feels about certain developments. For the past year, I've been SIPB's ISTAB rep, I'm happy to continue and also happy for any other member to take over the position. achernya: Is this open to prospectives? bbaren: I'd be comfortable with discussion; in my mind, I thought it'd be a full member considering they're representing the Board. christy: So you sit in an IS&T meeting once a month and talk about stuff? jhawk: And communicate back and forth. christy: So you have to know what's going on at said meetings. bbaren: It is a fairly low-stress and low time commitment position. Also, I'm pretty sure they'll feed you. pquimby: Who are the other representatives? bbaren: I think it's Dormcon, GSC, Panhel, IFC, ASA, UA, and 2/3 members at large.
