I'm sorry I didn't get to go to as many as I wanted, but from what I hear things they worked out really well. So I would like to nominate dlaw and sqshemet for membership. Do you accept? dlaw: Yes. sqshemet: Yes. [Both seconded, both nominated 4-0.] SIPB Projects Report: achenrya: We had a power outage; W20 was closed, so some maintainers and an lfaraone went to the machine room to start turning servers off since it was getting warm. However, we were up during the entire outage. Problems occurred when IS&T tried to bring E40 up at which zephyr and AFS took turns exploding. jhawk: The precipiting event was a relay disconnected one of NSTAR's transmission stations. The other line in parallel was in service for maintenance; this took out much of cambridge. It seems clear that we weren't on the ball w/r/t what we were doing in the machine room. It was quite some time before the people there realized we lost power and that the UPSes were being fed by the generators; I think the heat from the people was more than the heat from the machines. So we should have some procedure for what to do, and there were some issues with respect to building access. glasgall: Building access was definitely a concern. There is now in SMR a list of contact people and a beginning of a list of emergency procedures. jhawk: There was also a nonzero amount of time before we realized we had lights we could turn on. mitchb: The part I found entertaining was the fact that I was more able to turn off the computers than people in the building. tlyu: You think the people in the room added to the heat? How many were there? jhawk: Four. Maybe I'm wrong. glasgall: The barnowl developers are embarking to make barnowl less mean to our dialups. At some point we want to persist messages to a sqlite database on disk so they don't grow arbitrarily large. dove: IAP is less than a week away from being less than a month away. The IAP website has all the classes, so expect to get notifications. The next thing to do is the SIPB IAP website, which I'll be doing. After the dust settles I plan to make a dynamic easily-maintanable version. achernya: ine wrote scripts to generate it and I don't think it should be dynamic. dove: He said the scripts were hacky, and should be rewritten. achernya: I think they should be dynamically generated, but not dynamic. dove: OK, I'll make it a *better* website. vasilvv: The scripts queue had 40 tickets; it's currently down to about 20, but still has a bunch that should've been closed. bbaren: So if you want to help, now's a good time. dlaw: The cluedump from last week was about Ur/Web. The one this Wednesday at 8:30 PM in 4-231 will be about Go. Office Report: bbaren: I noticed that we have a lot of business cards on the board; I think most people in the room don't know most people on the cards. I think we should take them down and scan them into AFS. How do people feel? jhawk: I think it's for alumni, and alumni are only generally known for a short time. I think nobody would look at them in AFS. I'd suggest cleaning other areas of the board. Much of the stuff is fairly date. phurst: Can we store them more compactly? achernya: That defeats the purpose. I guess the question is, are they being looked at? bbaren: Has anybody ever looked at them? [About 5 people have.] Have they ever been *useful*? mitchb: I haven't used them for contact information, but I have used them to see what people do. glasgall: Maybe we should pull the ones that are for dead companies? dove: Maybe we should put them on the ceiling? bbaren: What do you think about cleaning *other* stuff? [Several nods.] achernya: We should also laminate stuff. bbaren: I want to get to a point where the board does not look 3-dimensional. tlyu: I suggest you start with the stuff obscured by other stuff. phurst: What's the Kayla poster? bbaren: Isn't that one of Waseem's things? jhawk: I think there's some reason it's amusing? dwilson: I suggest some motivated person take down things as they see appropriate and let the rest of the office put things back up. bbaren: I think that seems reasonable, does anybody have any objections?
