Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2014-05-26

The meeting was called to order at 19:38 by dvorak42.

In attendance were
Voting members: codetaku dvorak42 dwilson iannucci k_sunter phurst
Associate members: achernya andersk davidben glasgall jhawk
        Prospectives: jrafidi
        Guests:

Administrivia:
davidben: I would like to nominate jrafidi for membership.
	[Motion passes 8-0-0.]

	achernya: vasilvv and I have a proposal for a new office head;
I was going to allocate today, but will defer to next
week given that the treasurer is absent, since I don't
know if it fits in the budget. The idea is to build an
		mkc-type machine for 2014; a Core i7 Haswell with a
nice SSD, graphics card, and a 27" monitor. One
proposal is to not have the GPU or all of the RAM and
ot build it out. Part of the reason is that we want to
try to pass-through the GPU to a Windows machine for
fun nights. The total cost is $2667 with the GPU and
		the monitor.
jhawk: There might be other things that that other people want
		to spend their money on.
	achernya: This is the heads-up.
[An argument proceeds between jhawk and achernya that ends
with achernya, andersk, and davidben leaving the
		office.]

dvorak42: For the July SMR rewiring, we're going to buy around
		6 extension cords, running about $400-500. E-mails
will be sent to sipb-machine-room@ and sipb-office@.

dvorak42: The next fun night is this Friday; the game is still
to be decided. If you have opinions, e-mail out.

SIPB Projects Report:
glasgall: Work on actually evacuating the crashy XVM RAID
continues. The latest complication is that the
procedure that worked before seems to mysteriously
fail for some disks and not others. We're trying to
figure out why and come up with an alternate procedure
in case we can't figure it out. So this might not
happen this week, but will hopefully happen next week.

glasgall: Scripts has started work on Fedora 20. busy-beaver
has just passed the setup audit and will hopefully be
a test server soon. We apologize for the long delay
		between upgrade.
k_sunter: Are you going to have another scripts hackathon any
		time soon?
glasgall: Good question. The correct person to ask is probably
		achernya.

jrafidi: Roost 2 has effectively reached feature parity with
Roost 1, except that it doesn't work in Safari and I
don't know if it works on a phone. You can view
multiple streams of zephyr messages, and it looks
pretty. The code is in CoffeeScript and the styling is
in SASS. A lot of it is built on what davidben left
		behind.

Other:
dvorak42: Classes are over, the term is finished. This is the
		first summer meeting.

Other Other:
glasgall: How many PhD's did we have this year?
codetaku: 3? We had one at the end of IAP as well.
k_sunter: I'm getting mine in August.
	codetaku: So at least 4.

The meeting was adjourned at 19:37.
