Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2014-09-29 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by dove. In attendance were Voting members: dove, dvorak42, iannucci, mingy, belzner, vasilvv Associate members: achernya, tlyu, jdreed, k_sunter, dwilson Prospectives: abrahamq, tthoma24, leee Guests: Administrivia: NONE SIPB Projects Report: vasillv: LibSeal I've managed to implement big number multiplication, which actually kind of works. Don't try to implement big number multiplication using C++ templates. achernya: We could have fixed that…? dvorak42: SIPB network now has another /24 18.181.18/16. Sipb and XVM's networks are terribly intertwined at the moment. achenrya. We went whale watching. It was a little bit bumpy. Some people got sick, but everyone enjoyed the whales. We saw the same three whales for the whole hour and a half vasilvv: How did the whales fee about being watched k_sunter: Asana is giving a Tech Talk next Tuesday night. They're basically handling everything, but they want to put our logo on their posters. They mentioned they will be getting this catered, but are open to restaurant ideas. If you have ideas, let us know. They also would like to sponsor SIPB events in the future. leee: I am the IAP Coordinator. If you want to teach a class, come to me. The catchphrase dove told me to tell you is "It's sooner than you think!" dove: Specifically, if you're interested in teaching Intro to Python, come see me. New Prospective Introductions: NONE Other: NONE Other Other: achernya: There might be a Xen vulnerability announced on Oct 1st. It's been causing Amazon and OpenStack to do rolling reboots. I suspect XVM is going to be sad. dwilson: There has been at least one bash vulnerability announced this week. It works by putting funky things into environment variables. vasillv: In other news, there was an NSS bug which rendered NSS RSA signature verification useless. If you check something and allow an attacker to put arbitrary data somewhere, they can break your signature. iannucci: There was a memorial service today for Prof. Seth Teller. Member at large election: dove: Both cereslee and dwilson have graduated and are members at large. It is not an ASA mandate that members at large be current students. They may remain in their positions until such a time when they leave. However, the Board thought it would be good to have a vote and see if they wish to keep people on. The other person in this role is fluffy, and he has expressed interest in stepping down. dove: If you are a full member and are here, dvorak42 will make ballots up. Mingy: What is a member at large? The EC is made up of 5 members at large, which are responsible for repping other membes to EC and traking on task assigned by the EC. It's a very flexible position. dwilson: You have to be a student to be member at large. EC elections generally take place in Feb, and that's when cereselee and I were elected. We cannot be elected now, but can continue to be members because nothing is explicitly prohibiting this. dove: Again, any student member of SIPB is eligible to be member at large. This is who we will choose from to replace fluffy. dove: If you are a full member, raise your hand and you will get a ballot. Please write the usernames followed by a colon and either yes or no, stay or resign, or keep and resign. Keep:Resign:Abstain 6:0:0 dwilson 5:0:1 cereslee dove: Next week we will have special EC elections. Any questions about that? [NONE] The meeting was adjourned at 19:50. Minutes taken and submitted by tthoma24.
