Administrivia:

mcyoung: Welcome to the SIPB meeting!

dzaefn: There are currently only 3 people including me signed up for organizing the SIPB trivia night. It'd be nice to have a few more people to help out, if you're interested in helping administer some trivia either add yourself to sipb-trivia@mit.edu the moira mailing list or ask me to add you.

bpchen: We have a new monitor!

quentin: It looks exactly like the old monitor.

achernya: Mission accomplished! It is less broken than the old one. It does not have any cracks running through it.

slz: I move to allocate $50 for a universal USB hub

quentin: Which model, brand and whatnot?

    slz: Aukey is the brand.

quentin: I know way too much about USB-C docks, the good ones are Thunderbolt 3

achernya: Not all laptops have Thunderbolt 3, though any worth buying does.

quentin: I've never heard of Aukey, so I suspect they don't make a good dock.

slz: I'll wait til the end of the meeting then, see if I can find a better one.

Project Reports:

foner: We have a Cluedump next week! khaines is doing one on Emacs. Let me know if you'd like to do one, I'll provide snacks. Snow though. The whole French Toast Brigade is going nuts.

achernya: I heard there was a Scripts hackathon I was unable to attend.

dzaefn: Things happened. I didn't actually contribute but I heard things got done.

foner: By the way the Cluedump is Wednesday at 7:30, I'll send out an email.

dukhovni: We're looking at getting into Stata to test the AV system.

mcyoung: Laptop Land moved about a foot south, so now we have this nice duct-tape delineated area for the Vive. This was done mostly by Iggy on Sunday, he couldn't make it today because he's hosed. Something else....we should probably start thinking about...I emailed CPW, sometime during the next month or so we should start doing practice machine room tours. Look forward to that.

alex_c: There's another person named Van who's running a deep-learning reading group on self-driving car software on Tuesday the 28 at 6pm. If the announcements to the mailing list are annoying come talk to me after the meeting.

dzaefn: Will there also be self-driving vans?

        alex_c: Eventually

lucyyang: Approximately 500 pens, laptop and camera stickers are the best price. I'd like to make an allocation of $900

        several people: Seconded

        dzaefn: White ballot

mcyoung: Yeah, we'll have leftovers to throw around.

lucyyang: The price is about a third each, they're all pennies apiece.

mcyoung: White ballot or will we actually have a vote? I've never witnessed a vote in this office.

        *discussion*

quentin: We are NOT following Robert's Rules.

*discussion of who can vote and what mcyoung should decide*

mcyoung: Everyone currently present in the office can vote. All in favor -- *counts hands*

*discussion of miscounting but a clear majority in favor*

        ikdc: Okay, it passes.

        mcyoung: The allocation passes!

Other:

mcyoung: There is no school tomorrow! Congratulations!

quentin: There is no anything tomorrow, the world will not exist.

mcyoung: The horsemen have arrived! Is conquest the first one?

pravinas: Conquest isn't one of them.

mcyoung: Read the book of Revelations.

        dzaefn: What if we're illiterate?

Other Other:

achernya: There is now a Target in Central. It's actually kind of nice.

ikdc: I saw a car with a Multics plate walking up the street.

foner: The car was walking up the street?

quentin: The Target in central unfortunately does not have a dollar section.

dzaefn: Kids at Spark ruined my game of Ingress. They took all the important portals.

slz: The class of 2021 is official tomorrow.

bpchen: Pi Day is also the inaugural Galactic Puzzle Hunt!

cela: There's also a really cool admissions video for Pi Day. You should watch it.

privinas: MIT Capture the Flag this weekend.

dzaefn: There are dozens of 3-character strings that Boolean evaluate to false in Javascript.

alvareza: How did I know as soon as you said Boolean it was about Javascript?

foner: Because Javascript is the PHP of the web

        mcyoung: Y'know....*heavy sigh*

Harris: I'm kind of an idiot but I do know how to read, so if there's anything that needs to be addressed, any projects, let me know.

mcyoung: Check out our projects page.

Harris: It seems kind of old

achernya: That's just because of the bug tracker. They never get closed.

ikdc: No, they're not all current. I'm going to be working on updating it.

The meeting was adjourned at 19:50.
