Project Reports:

parkah: For Hyades, we're still working on it, we had a Hackathon Saturday. We've been breaking up the project into more doable tasks. We've got teams working on the Spike controller, I'm working on implementation of the packet forwarder in LUA, we have some stuff with hashing algorithms -- we have more tasks to delegate.

dukhovni: Could have people working on servers

cela: We're working on the auth server, hopefully there's not much new software that needs to be written but there's a lot of things that need to be glued together.

yczheng: Tony and I started writing code for the controller, Tony's working on the hashing part...so we haven't started the algorithm yet but we ran into questions on how to glue the LUA and Go part of it...if someone here has any suggestions, that'd help.

mcyoung: Out of curiosity, have you thought of some more concrete path for having Hackathons? They've been fairly regular, so if you're going to continue may as well make it a regular thing.

parkah: I was going to keep having more on Saturdays, yeah, as long as there's enough interest.

mcyoung: There is a standing allocation for Hackathon food, though you should check with the Treasurer about the money.

parkah: All right, so there is another Hackathon Saturday, probably at about 1:00.

dukhovni: Mastodon exists and is running, we're meeting after this meeting to talk about terms-of-service and privacy policy and other such issues.

slz: So, first of all, my contribution to Hyades is bringing up a SIPB monitoring server. Hopefully that will be a thing soon. The server is Minotaur, because it sounds like monitor. Just, vowels switched --

        vasilvv: Oh, clever

slz: Friday we'll finally be moving the main http host for Mirror and gaining https capabilities. It won't be officially supported until we can make sure everything is not horribly broken. If people are willing to work on Mirror -- it's an open source mirroring and downloading site, mirror.mit.edu. If you're willing to become a maintainer and help modernize its architecture, talk to me.

lucyyang: I just placed the shirt order for SIPB frocket shirts. I ordered some extras, if you didn't order one, and they should come two meetings from now.

Other:

vasilvv: Intel had a vulnerability affecting their CPUs

mcyoung: Presumably there will be updates, so be aware.

slz: Multics has been up for 1,246 days

pravinas: I recently noticed that the book checkout doesn't really seem to have any effect....nobody's checking it or inventorying to see whether people have returned books from two years ago

mcyoung: I think someone's working on a project to make that suck less

slz: I think as of last Thursday Ubuntu 12.04 is no longer supported, please update your machines.

Other Other:

aleksejs: It has been three weeks since someone was arrested in Russia for messages posted on a Tor exit node. He will probably be tried for the content of his messages and not for running the node

cela: Maybe don't run Tor nodes in Russia

dukhovni: MIT TechX is organizing the Jank-Ass Machines for Tech-Fucked Teens Hackathon. I'm organizing a team if someone wants to join.

The meeting was adjourned at 19:45.
