Administrivia:

mcyoung: Welcome to the SIPB meeting! Since there are so many new people here, I'll explain how the meeting works! I'm the chair. The meeting is divided into 4 parts: Administrivia, i.e. finances, Project Reports, Other -- for discussing other things, and then there's Other Other, for discussing unrelated things. Is that all? Let's proceed to administrivia and introductions.

        [introductions]

mcyoung: I'd like to propose an allocation: one thing SIPB likes to do is scare nearby restaurants by showing up without a reservation and buying lots of food. I think it'd be really great to take you guys to get some food -- a standing allocation of about $500

achernya: It doesn't need to be standing, that means recurrent

mcyoung: Ok a one-time allocation for paying for prefrosh. I mean freshman. You get what I mean

        achernya: The 2021s.

        ikdc: Please restate it

ikdc: We pretend to follow Robert's Rules of order or something

mcyoung: Let's try this again shall we? I'd like to allocate $500 to pay for 2021s at food mobs.

kenta: Amend to first-year students? Cover grad students as well

    *seconded, white balloted*

    mcyoung: The allocation passes

kenta: I'd like to allocate up to $30 to replace the sound bar beneath mkc's monitor. It's got a broken audio plug

dzaefn: It's been broken a long time

kenta: According to Amazon it can be replaced for $15 but I'm requesting 30 just in case

    mcyoung: No objections! Anything else?

kenta: Anyone know where the paper cutter went?

    mcyoung: We've been bamboozled!

dzaefn: It's been missing at least a week.

kenta: It was here at the middle of the summer. Nobody currently knows, moving on

pravinas: (moving trash can) Found it

kenta: That's the old busted one

pravinas: Sorry. Why do we still have it?

    mcyoung: For emergencies!

ikdc: No we should just get rid of it

slz: Please get rid of it

    mcyoung: Please *decommision* it

dzaefn: Is the vice chair supposed to eat it?

Project Reports:

ikdc: Work on Hyades has continued at a moderate pace over the summer. [explanation of Hyades]

Other:

alvareza: What's going on with SIPB rush?

    mcyoung: Midway is Friday

ikdc: Since we already have some people here we're doing a good job already!

[confirmed that present 2021s here because of CPW]

pravinas: If anyone want to be in an experiment involving a vibrating belt, I'm in a UROP you could talk to me

foner: There was a similar Media Lab project a while ago you could look at

slz: Go 1.9 has been released! You can get a duration based on the monotonic clock not the wall clock. This was accomplished with no API change!

mcyoung: What is the most memetastic thing about Go?

slz: I wrote a function that can return itself.

    foner: What about LISP?

Other Other:

mcyoung: Reg day is sooner than you think!

        slz: Next Tuesday in fact

        foner: The eclipse was cool!

dzaefn: The flat earthers were hilarious

bpchen: I was going to say that

mcyoung: There's a bunch of prefrosh -- no, frosh frosh. Our beloved President Reif has converted them all to frosh!

bpchen: FYRE deadline is Wednesday, be sure to submit your preferences if you have them

slz: The deadline for health insurance waivers is this Thursday actually

dzaefn: If you drop out of MIT you won't even have to pay tuition
