Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-02-25


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat.

Project Reports:

        wqian: not to offend lily, SIPBW is April
        
        amigdal: AND APRIL IS SOONER THAN YOU THINK!
        
        ikdc: thin ice.
        
        wqian94: I have conscripted billy to support anyone who wants to work on SIPBW. Can recommend him, 10/10. fun fact, he is a member at large.
        
        cela: first of all hyades we merged the thing that ports to bazel, we also made the sipb hardware operations project official, if you need to access the machine room, please contact sipb-hwops@mit.edu
        
        alex_c: for the last few years, ive been running a reading group under SIPB, I have lost permissions to reserve classrooms. 
        
        emmabat: that happened when the ASA switched databases AGAIN. If you haven't added yourself to the ASA database, please add yourself so I can get you the bits you need.
        
        wqian94: engage.mit.edu, also only Mark is listed as an officer?
        
        ikdc: Is there an updated list of projects? 
        
        yczeng: its on the website, also it is a wiki so if you want to add a new project active maintained or inactive. put in your contact info if you want people to contact you to work on it.        
        
        emmabat: Also, we need a communist revolution to replace the office czar. contact me or the treasurer 
        
        rsthomp: I believe the correct pronounciation is "Mr. Moneybags"
        
        emmabat: Also we are tenatatively creating a new position of "webmaster", our website is outdated, if some cool enterprising young person wants to work on this..
        
        wqian94: since we cannot use the "master" anymore at MIT, why don't we use the name "head of web".
        
        emmabat : I am calling a vote to determine what the name of the new role should be:
        "webmaster": 6
        "head of web": 3
        "webdomme": 3
        
        alvareza: how do you spell webdomme?
        
        ikdc: why am I allowed to say things?
        
        yczeng: doorpi fixed
        
        ikdc: was it the new freshman?
        
        yczeng: Arthur fixed it
        
        amigdal: I literally plugged it in.
        
        emmabat: how many sipb members does it take to fix a door pi.
        
        emmabat: we should consider planning for the 50th anniversary, which will be happening in the fall. I am personally terrible at planning events, but I will be able to help if people need help contacting the alumni association. If someone wants to help with the 50th, it's a big one, so let me know.
        
        yczeng: Robert made offline flappy bird.
        
        emmabat: any more project reports? wow that was a lot, we must be doing a lot!
        
        cela: scripts will have regular weekly meetings starting every monday at 10.

        wqian94: visual effects and sound editing were well discussed. unsurprisingly bohemian rhapsody won sound design.
        
        yczeng: we went over the derivation of backprop.
        
        ikdc: quantum machine learning, now on the blockchain. 
        
        ikdc: i learned last semester that you can taylor expand backwards.
        
        wqian94: What, you didn't just absorb it from the universe.
        
        alvareza: How the heck am I supposed to name the minutes this week?

        emmabat: we may have exhausted ourselves on project reports.
        
        wqian94: for the first time this year, the US endorsed a coup of a democratically[?] elected government.
        
        cela: did you know that google maps satellite view was almost called "bird mode", it's because the way they did their meetings, which I think we should apply to the sipb meeting.
        
        wqian94: I am out of material this meeting. I guess it was the oscars.
