Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-04-08


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat.

In attendance were

Administrivia:

        alvareza: SIPB Machine room tour training happened.
        
        vickiew: SIPBW is sooner than you think! besides the machine room tour, there is also activities midway, and we need help with the computing bee. Joseph
        
        steve gonzales: I am interested in doing a short documentary about SIPB, if you are interested in helping make this happen, please let me know. 
        
        
Project Reports:

        cela: Work on hyades continue, we are no longer using rkt for anything anymore. Scripts meetings are also happening, if you are interested, you should show up to those, mondays 10pm
        
        gshay: We had a SIPB library hackathon, we catalogued ~2/3rds of the books in the library.
        
        npfoss: CourseRoad continues at an accelerated pace. Game night for SIPBW is sooner than you think, please bring a copy of catan. 
        

Other:
    
        alvareza: We have beat saber on the vive.
        
        npfoss: no mans sky is getting VR support. It was also semi multiplayer, originally singleplayer. Definitely the largest VR world.
        
        alvareza: I remember following it very closely, and seeing everyone being really disappointed.
        
        slz: I have two free codes for universe sandbox 2, if you want one lmk.
        
        cela: Apparently facebook was asking people to verify their email accounts by asking for users email passwords....
        
        slz: cisco decided that the way to fix some vulnerability is to ban curl, needless to say, you can use curl but change the user agent to not curl.
        
        emmabat: fun fact, cisco gave anne hunter a large block of silly putty.
        
        cela: apparently Google had an AI ethics council, and it lasted for about a week. They didn't think as hard as they should've about who was on the council.
        
        cela: There was a spacewalk last week, the cameras are actually really high quality, I remember them being really poor quality when I was young.
        
        emmabat: They are taking a picture of a black hole, and releasing the paper about it this wednesday.
        
        npfoss: There is a great XKCD about the event horizon telescope.
        
Other Other:

        mwnguyen: I got a really suspicious email for next house student government. 
        
        npfoss: <sarcasm> Was it about a documentary? cause I thought that was really suspicious. </sarcasm>
        
        mwnguyen: It was someone asking if they wanted to partner with "our" business, which they thought was a hotel.
