Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-05-20 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat. In attendance were Student keyholders: alvareza, emmabat, cela, ikdc, mtheng, mwnguyen, rsthomp, gshay | npfoss, wmoses Associate keyholders: bbaren | slz Members: murphyj, ivanaf Guests: dgeise Administrivia: [everyone tells the chair that they have failed.] emmabat: We have rather a lot of budget, and a lot of good ideas for how to spend it. We would like to spend $2500 on publicity materials. We can discuss this first, and then actually consider individual line items. alvareza: for the record, how much money do we have left? emmabat: $7400 approximately, minus $2200 for SIPB WISP, we have about $5000. emmabat: If we have controversial line items, we can vote individually on those. npfoss: I strongly believe that every member should be able to get a T-Shirt. emmabat: I agree, we will have remaining money for the. emmabat: I move to allocate $2500 for SIPB publicity items. [motion to allocate for SIPB Publicity Items, seconded, passed to vote by hand. passes: YNA 10 - 0 - 3 ] ikdc: I am worried about USBs because the link of the spreadsheet. quentin: promotional USBs tend to be unreliable. I recommend actual USBs that we add SIPB stuff to, or allocate on a case by case basis. ikdc: someone recommended we have some for installation. I don't think this is a bad idea, despite possible security concerns. emmabat: we can try to keep the USB keys more physically secured, we have options for that emmabat: we seem to agree that buying custom order USBs is not a great idea, how many do we want? wmoses: I think handing them out in a career fair like way is a bad idea. It would cost too much and no one cares. emmabat: we will buy 20 noncustom 16gb USBs. [proposal ratified by consent of majority]. Let's now talk about shirts. npfoss: if we are giving shirts to members, we want more than 40. wmoses: We will want shirts for new members next year. emmabat: let's get 80 shirts and send out an order form? npfoss: I am a fan of the $3-5 range because it is frictional enough. emmabat: We will get 80 shirts, they will be subsidized up to $5. emmabat: What about track jackets. wmoses: It really depends on the source. emmabat: I am a fan of getting these because the 2020 ones are absolutely bad. Anyone know what sources of nice track jackets would be? wmoses: one second. capslock: I have a question about stickers. Would this cover rush budget or publicity? Also, I believe the cost for the $500 flyers was actual $300. emmabat: We can move the flyers to a later allocation. We did an inventory of some of the spare servers in the SMR. We have a lot of info on what spare servers we have. We also moved some of the old lamp hardware. cela: hyades continues, scripts continues. wmoses: SIPB WISP has had a lot of people join, which is great. We are still working through the logistical plans for it. wmoses: the only thing we need to consider is whether or not we have to file a form from the FCC, when we emmabat: we can ask Marco if we need to do any thing special [Network Ops from IS&T] npfoss: I have fixed *this* stapler! Other: bbaren: there is a new intel CPU sidechannel attack. update your kernel, update your microcode, and shut off hyperthreading. This is a confidentiality attack, not an integrity attack. quentin: it basically can be done locally, but can access memory randomly. bbaren: it concerns everyone with a web browser. wmoses: csail people has solved the the LS35 puzzle.
