Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-11-25


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat.

        emmabat: welcome to the SIPB meeting!
        
        bbaren: Do you like hanging out in the office? I do! do you like it when its dirty? I dont! We have a bunch of machines that don't work as well that needs security updates. We are going to clean up desktopland this weekend.
        
        emmabat: send it to the SIPB office, and I will handle the other channels.
        
        wqian: is there anything we need that 
        
        bbaren: I move to allocate $30 for canned air, seconded, white ballot.
        
        bbaren: can someone else order canned air?
        
        wmoses: I can do it.
        
        wmoses: I also bought the book from amazon that miguel wanted, the SRE book
        
        emmabat: the probes for the electronics equipment arrived.

Project Reports:

        quentin: after many months, the lights in the SMR are now functioning *clapping*. it ended up being exactly what we thought it was, which was during the athena lounge, they disconnected the lights. they also took the chance to fix the ballasts too!
        
        glasgall: is there anyone that we can ask about it taking 8 months to get some lights fixed???
        
        emmabat: they came, closed the work order, we reopened it bacause nothing actually happened.
        
        mau: the form closed for the IAP classes, if you really want to do one let me know. we have fast 6.006, reverse engineering, game design, statistical wizardy,
        
        bds: sipb video game happened, turnout was not great, so we might stick to board games.
        
        glasgall: me and ben have tried to get xvm updated.
        
        cela: hyades continues, also uplink continues
        
        wmoses: SIPBWISP continues.
        
        mrittenb: courseroad continues.

Other:

        wqian94: I have an other, the TL;DR is that facebook only recruits intern PhD candidates in their 4th year.

        bbaren: NaCl is deprecated.
        
        valentin: the new threadripper is out, it looks fantastic.
        
        wmoses: intel announced their processors the day before the AMD launch so that the reviews were not comparing with the new threadripper.

        wqian94: we have just had more political drama these last 4 days.
        
        wqian: it was so spicey you could enjoy it with popcorn.

        bbaren: Stadia launched, and people were mad that stadia didn't have as good 4k performance as Google claimed.
        
        cela: there is a protien called SipB. It is some sort of hydrophobic translocator. It was published in september.
