Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2019-12-02


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by emmabat.

In attendance were

        emmabat: welcome to the SIPB meeting?
        
        npfoss: I would like to nominate mrittenb for keyholdership. She has worked on scripts, sipb50, courseroad, etc.

        jkoppel: someone filed an rfp for SIPB
        
        

Project Reports:

        bds: SIPBWISP is working!
        
        npfoss: Its actually SIPBISP, because cortana is just plugged in.
        
        cela: hyades continues: we are having fun with dependencies and bazel using cmake.
        
        quentin: did you say cmake with bazel?? I'm going to back away slowly. 
        
        cela: As of last week we had a cluster that people could connect to, but there is no disk/loadbalancer. If you want to use the cluster check the hyades mattermost channel.
        
        cela: also scripts continue
        
        jkoppel: thursday we are having our next cluedump! Same drill as always, take some posters and put them where people may be, hope to see you there.
        
        emmabat: we had a desktop land cleanup, we have reorganized the desktops and cleaned the desks. We have not reinstalled debathena on all of them yet.
        
        npfoss: courseroad continues, miriam fixed a bug that would have been triggered on december first.
        
        mau: started booking rooms for SIPB IAP, I am mostly done, there is one class that we need more clarification.
        
        eltonlin: some people left the ExplainMIT team, I need to be better at team management.
        
        emmabat: the project leads here will tell you that managing a team is something that we are all learning.
        

Other:

        cela: I am sure you've heard about the therac paper. The person who wrote the software disappeared. They just never showed up again.
        
        cela: Google is now in the business of union busting.
        
        eltonlin: movie night will be happening saturday, the logistics will be sorted out in 20 mins. we will select the movie democraticly.
        
        vcharauvy: what kind of voting scheme?

        npfoss: [motion to allocate $25 for movie night, seconded, white ballot, motion passes.]

        cela: does anyone have a reason that I shouldn't use sipb.cloud for hyades stuff? if so let me know.
        
        npfoss: what about the SIPB weather altering service.
        
        vcharuavy: no, that will be at cloud.sipb.cloud
        
        vcharuavy: There is a security conference in Germany, You guys should watch, I will be giving a talk.
        
        npfoss: we have gotten a few emails recently asking for protaganists.
