Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2021-10-18


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by kjchen.

Administrivia:

        huydai: Secretary halt! Sorry I just got here. Also, is it really a secretary halt if the minutes for the meetings didn't exist yet? (Then who wrote this entry??)
       
        kjchen: Meeting may now resume.
       
        bds: As per last meeting, I will begin the process of getting rid of spare Petey's computers from the office. If you want some of those objects, including power strips, computers, monitors, then be quick about it because they may be gone in the next few days.
      
Project Reports:

        cela: If you are interested in HWOPS, come to the work sessions hosted weekly at 5 PM on Friday. Today we made some progress cleaning out the machine room in W20, and we're now almost to the point where we can begin the process of moving things out for trash. We're also releasing some items to people that would have otherwise went to e-waste. If you were one of those people, you should have received an e-mail at this point (otherwise please contact me!). Also if you use the server room and have strong opinions about whether we can should the Dell workstation that we are wanting to get rid of, please reply to my email.

Other:

        cela: Will we be back to the office soon?
       
        kjchen: Huy and I just talked about this, and I think given the size of the meeting now we'll move back to the office. Previously for some meetings attendance was above 20 people so I was worried about trying to fit everyone in the SIPB office. However, since attendance seemed to have decreased a bit to a more manageable size, I think it's a fair choice to host the meetings in the office. We'll still keep the Zoom option so anyone who wants to attend the meeting virtually can still do so.

        cela: Midterm season is sooner than you think
       
        toomas: Midterm season has already passed for me. Also, I apparently have fell through the flu shot system. My Atlas hasn't updated yet despite me going to Walker for the Flu shot.
       
        cela: We should pressure them to get this resolved soon!
       
        kjchen: My shameless plug for the day: You should sign up for a Pika meal plan! We have great dinners at about 6:15 PM everyday (all of the meals are home-cooked, with vegan options, etc.). You can come to one of the dinners even if you are not a member! We are looking to induct more people into our Pika cult.
       
        toomas: Also from my personal experience Pika also has great leftovers that you can get. This was what I got from their dinner leftovers today.
       
        cela: I'm cold, can we end this meeting early?
