Come talk to me after the meeting         Project Reports:         cela: HWOPS continues. We made progress on deciding which UPS to buy after last week's open questions. We have not re-performed the comparison we need to perform but this will be done soon. Also, some work was done on SIPBv6 and we helped with SMR access for that. So if you run a server in the machine room and would like to do maintenance on it in person, we can work with you to schedule a time.                 cjq: We have things going on for IAP. I believe the people I talked to so far include, Athony, Huy, and Javier, who wants to do something like Missing-semester but oriented towards more non-CS people. I also heard from Mark who wants to run something in Numpy and Billy and Jeff are looking to do something with C/C++. There's also plans for an event for JavaJava. If you are interested in helping run any of this or run an event yourself, you should talk to me and we will make it happen! Make SIPB-IAP something that happens again.                 petey: CJ and Billy and other people are working to get Swole Tim working for Class of 2026.                 cjq: I want to add Billy and I did not expect Swole Tim to exist this long, so at this point we realize that it might be something that will last forever, so we end up cleaning up the code, which is a miraculous thing.                 kjchen: Is MIT Discord and virtual CPW a permanent thing from now on?                 petey: So far Swole Tim has been through two classes of service. Class FB is slowly dying and being phased out, and it seems to be being replaced by MIT Discord. My guess is we will do some kind of CPW virtual community building, regardless or not CPW will be hosted in-person this year. From what we've seen so far, having some kind of virtual platform where people can talk and build a community before they arrive, especially for students who aren't able to come in-person, is especially helpful, so this is likely something we'll keep in the future.                 kjchen: Billy, you have something to add?                 wmoses: I'm on a plane right now and I realized they blocked Zoom so I'm using a VPN. That said, my Internet is absolute trash. But if Petey and CJ did not say it, we did set up the 2026 Discord chat including a bunch of club stuff, but we also ran a non-trivial issue with Scripts and SIPB bots.                 kjchen: William has video now. Looking good! Other:         cela: If you haven't heard, there is a very serious vulnerability in a very commonly used Java library called Log4J which affects all sorts of Internet systems. This is an extraordinarily serious vulnerability, and it's extremely funny because the way this is exploited is using some form of merging JNDI and LDAP URLs, which are both very obscure. It affects a very large part of the Internet. If you use Java please go check if Log4J is a dependency, even indirectly, because it is very important to fix this. This is affecting a lot of people.                 gshay: There was a bug on Linux where if you have Teams installed you might not be able to call 911.                 cela: Last week AWS had an outage, and since IS&T have decided to stop hosting stuff in-house Covidpass was down for a number of hours and we couldn't attest or get tested.                 cela: Welcome to the new world, welcome to the new IS&T. In fact, it has already started                 wmoses: Pre-req is sooner than you think                 kjchen: I didn't realize that pre-req was opening until very recently                 cela: I learned about something called the "Chicken Dance License." You can look this up online by searching its name. Basically, you are only allowed to redistribute binaries without source code if you release a video of someone from your organization doing the chicken dance. It includes a copy of the instructions of performing the chicken dance, which you distribute as part of the repository!                 bds: So you have to do the dance with no audio?                 cela: No, the instruction tells you to perform it with the song, but they don't actually own the song. If you'd like, I can read the instructions of the chicken dance.                 *cela reads and demonstrates*                 kjchen: So the song goes on forever?                 cela: No, there is a fixed time.                 kjchen: What's the exit condition?                 cela: They don't say you can stop but it's implied                 cela: So the license says that one or more people associated with the entity must be recorded doing the chicken dance in its entirety.                 kjchen: Does this count as furthering the goal of SIPB?                 cjq: Yes                 cela: I was also introduced to something called the Overwatch license, which lets you distribute the source code as much as you want, but if you want to modify it you must have a higher competitive Overwatch rating than the current copyright holder of the project.                 petey: MIT has announced a booster. Slots for the MIT Clinic for boosters have opened back up (they were completely booked up as of two weeks ago), and there's enough for everyone in the MIT community to get their shots.                 cela: Didn't they have some weird condition for having to sign up with 45 minutes of opening up the page about the booster, and otherwise you can never get one?                 petey: Yes, that was a very anxiety-inducing condition.                 kjchen: That is wild.                 *discussion of vaccine data, vaccine types*                 kjchen: The pandemic has really given me a lot of things to think about in terms of people                 bds: We have a sort of working camera!                 kjchen: That can be in project reports. This is a real question.                 cela: And we encourage you to be as realistic and critical as you would like.                 mitimmy: I think SIPB is good that once you are in it, you would like to stay and you would like to do things together. However, I also feel that we can improve on retention with new people too.                   jmvidal: I feel that once you are really involved with the projects and come to meetings to talk with people about things, then it's a really awesome environment, so that's a nice experience that SIPB offers. I would also echo the concern about getting people to stay longer in the club                 mitimmy: Maybe some way to make it feel less intimidating in SIPB, like giving people options that they can do that doesn't require a lot of experience                 jmvidal: I know for sure when I first joined SIPB I felt lost (I didn't know what was exactly happening in the club).
