Project Reports:

huydai: hyades continues, looking on getting k8s set up on our vm, and replace os with nixos.

cjq: using nixos like all the cool kids

huydai: for projectdb we got a few listings. this week bds and i will ping project maintainers.

rgabriel: i was looking into uplink. tl;dr i want to do it in matrix rather than mattermost. i need a server and the locker. if the project would be on matrix instead of mattermost, would it need more buy-in? and if so, would it still be called uplink?

        [doc for reference: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iJSinnNbZAOkv9dUvkdlsu5x7HGft5gQH20v3Sajbiw/edit]

jmvidal: that's probably fine, hyades is pivoting with tech use anyway, so it should be fine if you want to use matrix.

huydai: there's no one actively working on uplink right now right?

        rgabriel: i don't think so.

        huydai: then that's fine.

rgabriel: how will i get a server for it then?

bds: there may or may not be compute left on xvm, and maintainers are difficult to contact. it's probably easier to get a physical server to stick in the machine room. justice, are you around mit?

rgabriel: i'm on campus. i can scavenge from the loading docks?

bds: that amount won't be necessary, we probably have a couple extra servers in the machine room. maybe wait until one of the hwops people are there so you can look through the smr and something suitable will probably be there.

huydai: in terms of lockers, is there not a locker for uplink?

        rgabriel: there should be...

huydai: idk how permissions work, usually there's a moira acl. if it exists it might be worst emailing afsreq? i don't know if they do permission changes.

huydai: when we asked for a new locker for projectdb we asked sipb-afsreq.

Other:

        huydai: agrebe i can't believe you're here

agrebe: i mean i went straight to the subway after my flight. i am eating my second meal of the day right now, my first one was at one am [eighteen hours ago].

Other Other:

bds: there's zoom rce v2 for mac people. so update your zoom if you use mac!

        huydai: what changed?

bds: well the update fixes the rce. i think that's the purpose of it.

agrebe: i've received secondhand rumors that the closed campus policy is here to stay.

huydai: isn't there like a petition? someone with more context can do this better but. mit has a policy to close it to the general public. there's a petition to keep it open (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eIexQaGZ1EHSNub7Tjv3SvyGAs2CM8RzEAyv1FIxh9o/edit)

huydai: also we have a rush event meeting right after this

jmvidal: rush is sooner than you think

The meeting was adjourned at 19:42.
