Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2023-01-23


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by jmvidal.

        cjq: xy wants to do a cluedump, does someone want to do the logistics?
       
        xy: it's about activitypub and mastodon

        bds: There was a financial training today. It had no useful information, but it should at least prevent them from pestering us for a while.

Project Reports:

        rgabriel: uplink conitnues. working on polishing the ui and moira integration. considering mit.edu for usernames, because usernames are most likely @user:matrix.mit.edu, and there's a way to make it @rgabriel:mit.edu, but that would reqiure IS&T to make a file under mit.edu. not sure how plausible it is. mentioned it on the mattermost, cj said just don't do this.
       
        xy: probably not worth it. for mit mastodon there was the same option, but did not go through that.
       
        rgabriel: i was looking at other instances, it's way more common for that to happen with matrix than mastodon.
       
        cjq: don't think they're going to approve it or that it's worth the effort.
       
        jmvidal: hwops kinda continues. found another server problem. gonna get the hard drives and put it in, whenever that is. if anyone wants to help mount the old server, stay tuned on the machine rooms chat and we'll work on a time.
       
        mitimmy: what's wrong with the old one?
       
        jmvidal: when i tried to boot it, there's an i[???] error, communication failure.
       
        colclark: hydrant and courseroad meetings are going on sundays 8pm. we're going through issues and emailing fireroad, maybe they'll get back to me maybe they won't. come find out, sundays at 8pm.

        aayushg: dormspam and interstellar, let's get together after the meeting and try to get something out before end of iap. we're almost there!

        jmvidal: the end of iap is sooner than you think.
       
        cjq: did you know that weather.gov, the weather services microsoft uses, calls the current weather a "wintry mix"?
       
        fabianv: feel like last year it said that it was "snizzling".
       
        toomas: snowing but it melts immediately?
       
        fabianv: a very fine snowing?
