Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2023-01-30

Project Reports:

        xy: Colin and I are organizing a cluedump this wednesday about ActivityPub. It's an open, decentralized protocol that powers Mastodon. We're going to learn at a high level how this protocol works, and write a simple example using Python. There will snacks, unicorns, and paper airplanes, so be sure to come. It's 6pm this Wednesday in room 1-150.
        
        jmvidal: For HWOPS, we're still waiting on hard drives.
        
        rgabriel: For Uplink, I have some ideas about integration of Moira with Uplink, though there are some objections/obstacles by current users that I would like to discuss at the end of the meeting
        
        carreter: Hello! It's been a while since I've attend a meeting. I'm trying to get Interstellar up and running. Currently have it running in a dockerized version, and trying to get it deployed to Heroku.

        colclark: There has been a lawsuit regarding publizing of an app, and I ended up being entitled to a compensation of at least $250. I will explain more later.
        
        jmvidal: The end of this semester is sooner than you think
        
        roseh: 2030 is sonner than you think.
        
        huydai: About two weeks ago there was a bug with the FAA, their system for reporting disturbances in the air ran into a bug, and the entire system crashed. They couldn't use a backup, because the data file in the backup was also bad. It ended up postponing flights for a few hours, and that was the first time a complete stopping of all operations has happened since 9/11.
