Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2024-05-06 The meeting was called to order at 19:33 by innaavo. In attendance were Student keyholders: aabreu, alwinfy, innaavo, psvenk Associate keyholders: agrebe, almonds, cjq, jeffery, slz, vasilvv Members: scj643, dtemkin, guoj1112, jazsolan, vex Guests: azyuan Administrivia: almonds: I left the office (with my laptop in the office) for 45 minutes to grab dinner before the meeting, and I come back and they aren't letting anyone in due to the protests. No prior notice. Erin Farrell (Senior Associate Dean of SOLE) was there (and is behind me, along with ants and other crud on the steps of W20), and said to write complaints to her erindf@mit.edu. I would like to document this, it comes off as rather unprofessional, there is definitely room for SOLE/MIT to improve. So IDK, please contact me if you'd like to help write that email or be CCed on it. psvenk: I would like to nominate scj643 for keyholdership innaavo: Seconded scj643: I accept! innaavo: Yay. Tentatively let's try to schedule it next week during the meeting at the office - does that work? If not we'll mail more about this. scj643: Yes vex: Yes alwinfy: To abbreviate tech issues: Protest happening right now outside W20, which means people aren't allowed to get in; also, there was a power outage due to a manhole cover blowing last night, so XVM went down for a while, which means services like Mattermost and Etherpad have also gone down. Hence the Wikimedia etherpad. innaavo: I would like to allocate $250 for the SIPB dinner that we had last week. psvenk: Seconded [motion passes 9-0-3] innaavo: I built the snack shelf yesterday! So once you get into the office, the snacks are now on the shelf in the back. azyuan: I'm Andrew, I'm a freshman at MIT. One of my new projects is basically a website for trading meal swipes (originally buy/sell but it's donating now); I've posted about this in the Mattermost already. I was hoping this could be a SIPB project and get a domain for it. It's called TradeSwipe. innaavo: What sort of progress do you have so far? azyuan: I have a website built and functioning; it's not final yet, I'd like to make some changes still to the UI, but it's working. alwinfy: For a MIT domain, talk to HWOps, which meets in this office Fridays at 17:30. For authentication, talk to one of the Petrock maintainers, such as rgabriel. rgabriel: Is buying/selling still on the menu? azyuan: I think right now it's just going to be trading - but if there's evidence that buying/selling would work better, or if there's market for that, I might consider changing it. alwinfy: As for SIPB project - that's sort of an umbrella, you can also choose to just use our services without being a project. To be one, you'd have to write some extra docs for maintainability and Projects Database and such, but you'd have a better guarantee of having maintenance on the project even after you leave MIT. The choice is yours - just things to keep in mind. [discussion about legal matters pertaining to the project] scj643: What about the system that lets you legally move 6 swipes? azyuan: Admin might be unhappy about it. I think we'll default to just a donation-matching system. rgabriel: Motion to allocate $150 for scratch thumb drives for misc. data transfer alwinfy: Seconded innaavo: Motion to white-ballot rgabriel: Seconded [motion passes by white ballot] Project Reports: almonds: XVM appears to be back online as of the last hour. I'll see if I can get Mattermost back online soon. scj643: SIPB Vault dev continues - still need a meeting with EC to get it into prod. Other: [discussion of SOLE] alwinfy: Should I put that in the minutes? [various]: No alwinfy: We are temporarily back in our nomad arc… innaavo: Keyholdership elections are sooner than you think! Other Other: scj643: Manhole explosion this morning! psvenk: Finals are sooner than you think. innaavo: Stay safe, everyone; have a good night. The meeting was adjourned at 20:26. Minutes taken by alwinfy, psvenk, innaavo, almonds and submitted by alwinfy.
