Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 11/19/79 The meeting was called to order at 19:31 by CAH. In attendance were Richard Mark Soley, ALAN, NAHA, SAS, DPC, LSP, BSG, RDM, GMP, HGA, WER, DCP, TAFT, Newton Loui, archy, RMP, CAH, DGH, and several users. Late were KHS, BARMAR, JIS, JSL, and Gonzo. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as corrected. KHS came in at this point. Treasurer's Report: The treasurer is absent. His absentee report: we have spent $2863 so far this month. ***User Interrupts*** MIT Seekers, for membership list. Motion to give $20; passes. PiKA, $50, for house billing program development and use. Given $40 for development, None for use. BARMAR, JIS, and Gonzo came in at this point. Chairman's Report: We will continue to try the "Computer Services Report" meeting format. Office Report: There are two letters on the board that need to be mailed. If you are going in the correct direction, and something needs to get there, bring it! When you take things off the board to be thrown away, check to see whether it should be put into blackboard rejects instead. ALAN and archy have redesigned the Form B. Take a look at it; decide if you like it. Everyone should look through the file drawers; interesting things reside there. JSL came in at this point. Computer Services Report: GMP did a quota move to give a user nbdd; we are now running out of space in the Attic. Clean up what you can. The name "start_up.ec" was missing from SIPB-Users.start_up.ec. This was fixed by CAH. It seems that the center will take up the spinwriter. More will be said. Information on using SIPB_print is next to the spinwriter. We must keep a hand-written report of what gets printed if we go along with the center. The center is getting 256K of core for Multics soon, an interim kludge until they get large amounts. The contract has still not been signed. Telecommunications Report: A spinwriter film ribbon has been hacked to work by archy et. al. PLEASE don't throw it away; it works fine. We now have a spinwriter manual, also. There are now hardwired Heath terminals in Delphi. Bartlett will demo a Compugraphics color terminal here on Monday, at 1400. The 370 now has hardwired 3270 terminals in the new pool room. Publications Report: The latest draft of the Green Card is on the XGP now. As stated above, the Form B has been re-done. Annual Report Report: More needs to be done. See ALAN this weekend. IAP Report: A blurb about the SIPB and the programming contest must be sent in. The set of Knuth for last year's prize was bought by PAE. It will be delivered to the correct people. On the order of $50 was passed for this year's prize. Fifty MacLisp manuals have been ordered for the Lisp class. Elections: There are 13 present active full members. The election results: Newton Loui: 10 for, 1 against, 2 abstentions. Barry Margolin: 6 for, 4 against, 3 abstentions. Newton Loui was elected a member of the SIPB. Other: DCP has an XD in his MC directory now. (XD is a program that displays an XGP files on AI terminals) We had an LA34 in the office for a while; it seems to be a bit of a win. (Can't send a control-underbar, though). Applications: ***Warning form: David Freed, for doing 6-030 work on Student. Given come_to_office. Marks, Jerold S., $80-$100 to learn to use Multics, do text editing, and to demo computers to a scout troop (and help them with computer projects). Given $40 for personal use, None for use in conjunction with the scout troop. (He must come to a meeting for the latter). $695 autoed ($0 on ECS, $695 on Student) $100 given at meeting, $0 by EC vote. Total: $795 Other Other: Perhaps people should be careful of user application stuck in limbo. There is a file named LIMBO - look at it Last year's applications are now in a file labelled "Last Year's Applications". This drawer must be merged into the old applications.
