Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 12/31/79

	The meeting was called to order at 19:32 by CAH.

	In attendance were CAH, cent, DLW, and RLL.
	
		Late were archy and shawn.

	The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as
		corrected. 

	Treasurer's Report: Last month we spent $4993.11, this month
		we spent $339.49.  Fascist graphs have been updated.
		We aren't spending enough money; we need to spend
		$10K+ per month to spend our budget and are currently
		spending $5K.  The graphs show that we shouldn't
		expect to spend extraordinary amounts of money during
		IAP.  We should do a media blitz (green cards and
		Never Type Anything Twice).  We are not paying as much
		for disk usage; there are more users this year but
		less actual usage then previously.  There was random
		discussion on how to get rid of the extra money.

	Archy and shawn came in at this point.

		RLL moved to raise the auto limit to $50; archy
		seconded it; passed unanimously.

	Chairman's Report:  ()

	Office Report: The computerized office plan works and the
		office will probably get rearranged and painted during
		IAP.  KTOC.  We have only half a box of quality-print
		left, and more hasn't arrived yet; RLL is working on
		it.  We are out of film ribbons; we should be getting
		more soon (the people upstairs are going to get more
		for us); people should use cloth ribbons carefully
		until we do get more film ones.

	Computer Services: The new Multics memory is losing worse than
		before now.  CAH has asked for our regular quarterly
		complete dump of heirarchies, after which we will
		clean things up.  CAH wrote a graphics dim for the
		SpunWronger, so it now does some graphics (circle
		graphs, box diagrams, interesting large letters);
		people interested should speak to CAH.  CAH also wrote
		a command to let anyone on SIPBADMIN and himself on
		any project control the LA120 daemon -- the command is
		mc_reply; people interested should speak to him.

	Telecommunications Report: The blackboard says the McCormick
		terminal needs looking at.  OTA and RK are working on
		some hack to let people log into the S-1 directly from
		the office tv.

	Publications Report: If we are going to get special blue form
		Bs for IAP, one should get hacked and taken to Beane
		this week.  These will also be used for the center
		courses.  We should also get a large number of Never
		Type Anything Twice and the green cards for mailbox
		stuffing; maybe we should put something on the back of
		the Never Type Anything Twice flyer (a brief
		explanation of the SIPB or something) since paper
		costs so much.

	Annual Report Report: () (DLW suggested that we create an
		automatic something that says Don't Ask whenever
		someone brings up the question.)
				
	IAP Report: It's almost here.

	Other: People should read and comment RMS's document on EMACS
		which is sitting on the board.  We should do something
		about the job listing (job offerers should get called
		regularly about whether the positions have been	filled;
		maybe someone should be in charge of the project), and
		about getting freshmen invloved in SIPB projects in
		general.  Also we are going to get a graphics
		terminal; there will be appropriate discussions about
		which one during IAP, and then we will get it.  RDM is
		going to attempt to put together lots of demos of
		graphics terminals to aid in decision-making.  There
		was some discussion about getting graphics terminals
		and CBF's efforts last year and	some relevant work he
		has done this year.

	Applications:  one application $40 autoed.

	Other Other: The office got Christmas cards from RK and BIM.
		Also JLF (Jim Fenton, former member) apparently came
		by a few weeks ago; he left a note on the board saying
		KTOC, which shows that he is a former office manager.
		CBF is around somewhere (there was general surprise
		that he didn't appear at the meeting); LSP is coming
		on Jan. 2 and RK and OTA on Jan 3.  The Great Dome is
		featured as the	Big Nipple in the current Playboy.
