Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 29 June 1981
	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by david C. Plummer
	
In attendance were RLL, RDM, Naha, DCP, GMP, JSL.
		
Late were: Barmar, Alan, Jay, JIS, KYM
	The minutes of the meeting of 22 June 1981 were read and accepted as
	corrected.  
    Barmar, Alan came in during this.  Barmar took over the minutes.

WMBR - Cleoatis Evans - $1150 to do repetitive and mundane station
    business until end of December.  They want to expand their use of
    computers, which is why they want so much more than the $480 we
    gave them for the last two terms.  It was moved to give them $600,
    so they can do the same things they were previously doing and
    prepare graphs that the FCC wants for the
    whole fiscal year; we want to see the other things planned out
    better before they apply for more.  Given.

	Treasurer's Report:
He is here.
$113,634.93 this year, plus expected fixed costs of $600-$800 for June.
    This allows us to spend $600-$800 tomorrow.
Jay has been getting our accounts ready for the new year.
We broke even this year in publications.
The Institute hasn't been billing us this year, so this is why we
    haven't been reimbursing our account for things like CDT's
    Ambassador.
Jay balanced the checkbook!
Jay and KYM sent the comptroller's office a memo explaining what the
    story is with OSP accounts paying us for Coop time.
Pay your bills.  Someone should talk to CBF about him paying his.
 
	Chairman's Report:
The chairman is on the phone from Syracuse.
The frosh letter was sent over to the R/O Office.  They haven't been
    signed.
 
	Office Report:
There is a concensus to get rid of the boar's head that HGA brought
    here.
There is a light in the loft.
The darkroom has been wired for Chaos.
 
	Computer Services:
The rates are going up on Wednesday, July 1.
The new projects are all ready.
    JIS came in during this.
We should dump Coop and Student to tape this week, so we can delete
    most of Coop.
There will be links to ALL the Student directories in >udd>Student.
    The new tools to manipulate the new Student projects should be
    documented in the Office Manual.
Barmar would like to give the Student Center librarian a set of keys
    to the cabinet so users can get at the extra paper.  This is a bad idea.
 
	Telecommunication Report:
Are we allowed to buy terminals for people and then have them
    reimburse us?

SCEP - Bob Willis - $150 - interim request for working on 80-81 course
    evaluation guides this summer.  Jay suggests that they try to talk
    the faculty into paying for them in the future.  Given, cutoff
    9/10/81.

RLL suggests that instead of getting a VT100 graphics upgrade demo
    from S&S we try the ones at Plasma Fusion.
Someone should arrange a demo for the InfoScribe graphics printer.
Our 11 was running today.
JSL suggests that we talk the Center into buying us hardware for
    connecting our 11 to the 370.
Prof. Corbato' nationalized the Chaosnet this week when he became
    in charge of networking.  He is really into getting JCF on the
    network, and JIS suggests that we get him to give us terminal
    concentrator hardware.  We should call the current one a
    prototype, but we need more advanced hardware to bring up a
    reliable service.  In view of this possibility, we should hold
    off getting more hardware for our 11.  JIS suggests that WMY talk
    to Corbato', and DCP suggests that he or RLL help.
DEC just GAVE the EECS Dept. five LSI-11/2's.
RLL nominated himself for Telecommunications chairman.
RDM talked to Wellesley people about the tielines, and found out that
    they are in the midst of modifying them, which is why they are so
    crufty now.  He also talked to them about increasing the number of
    tielines so they can be used for data communications.

	Publications Report:
Does anyone want to sign Frosh Letters?  No.
Someone should check out whether the 370 publications we ordered have
    come in.

Barmar could not get in touch with Fred Richardson.
 
	Applications:
Arrott, Anthony T. - For text editing, and for keeping roster for
    community team that he does volunteer work for.  Moved to give $40
    and tell him not to do outside work.  Given.
Coolies (THIS MEANS YOU) should call people who made applications that
    we deferred a while ago, and auto them if they still want them.
    Some also need to be asked the amount.
MITSFS - $50 for PinkDex.  Given.
    KYM came in during this.
DiSalvatore, Eugene - $200 - to continue working on programs for solving
    differential equations.  Given.

Should we GC the Student PMF at the end of the year?  Let RK worry.

RLL didn't take out the garbage today.
Good movies coming up in Harvard Square this week.
There may be an LSC show of 90-minutes of Mr.Bill for $1.50.  If
    you're interested, tell Jay.
One of the CMU cube hackers is in town.  KYM saw someone with a cube key-chain.
