Minutes of the SIPB meeting of 4/12/82 Meeting was called to order at 19:30 by Wendy Rowe (the chairman had to take minutes). In attendance: WER, WMY, BCN, NAHA, JR, DMK, GILL, ZRM, RK, DCP, and GMP. Late were: LRH, Lai, JIS, Barmar. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as corrected. LRH, Lai, and JIS came in during this, and GILL left. User Interrupt: SEDS: $75 for continuation of letter writing campaign. David Brahm is the representative. Given. Treasurer's Report: MTD Multics: $5058.17 ($1192.76 DISK), 370: $149.90. YTD except March and April JCF: $81,701.11. Multics allocated & not spent $26,000. There is an ASA hearing tomorrow, 4/13/82 at 19:30 in room 491 of the Student Center. The recent ASA proposals on taxing student organizations will be discussed. Add a measure of reason to this meeting by attending. We still have $30K to spend. WER is making a slide which will be ready after the meeting. She is also working on the new SIPB mailbox stuffing card. Chairman's Report: The chairman is taking the minutes. Not much of chairmanly import has happened in the past week. Office Report: There were 15 inches of snow last week starting last Tuesday. The Institute was closed on Wednesday. GMP did not get stuck at MIT, but RK and WMY did. We got a very strange letter from the SCC in response to a letter from "Raymond Beuvais" complaining about service in the Coffeehouse. WMY called and explained that we had no such person, and that the letter was probably a hack. They concurred. Look up the "Raymond Q. Beuvais Memorial Anachronism" tour of the Institute. Someone used RLL's bike pump in such a fashon as to break it. We will be getting some free chairs from the MIT Equipment Exchange delivered at some point. We can return them if they are useless. Computer Services: Wes Burner will be meeting with Mr. Dixon of the MIT Space Planning Office on Wednesday to discuss the move. We wait with baited breath. We should flush our version of convert_date_to_binary_, as it is now grossly out of date. There is a bug in the SIPB_registrar "rega" command. If you give an alias that is already in use, it will screw up the registration. Do a print_pnt on the alias that you intend before assigning one. If you run into problems, send mail to JIS. Penny went through the OK2RUN list and found all the overspent users. They need to be called. RK, CBF, and BARMAR hunted through the Student?? directories looking for PL/I programs. Of the 497 of our 667 users that have files, 16 have PL/I programs, 39 have FORTRAN programs, 323 have RUNOFF files. Where have all the hackers gone? Fill out a Form B for any Coop money additions. There was some confusion over Tavares's computer account. Telecommunications Report: Bills were sent out last week for living groups who have stable telecommunications situations. JR would like suggestions on how to pro-rate the groups who have been waiting. RLL proposed a simple algorithm. The Board decided to leave it to Jon. The Vadics have been tested, but none have been delivered. The cancelled purchase order from IMF sales came back. Good riddance. We are ordering the phones from TPC to go with the Vadics. It was decided to get phones with exclusion switches. We will get a copy of McNamara's book "Technical Aspects of Data Communication". We need to get it through MacGregor's head that they should let the phone installer install their phone. BCN will drop off a note tonight. The phone lines in Next House and New House have not yet been installed. The installer was at Next House several times last week. There is evidently some lack of communication or understanding in these Western dorms as well. We should inform the desk staffs as to what to expect. The 4th line to the Student Center is still dead. RLL terms the situation "hopeless". The microwave link to the Student Center is "in progress". There is a Z19 awaiting pickup at Heath in Wellesley, and one here waiting to go. The ESP Teleray 1061 is still in the office. The SIPB PDP-11 is sitting in the dark room awaiting test runs as a terminal concentrator to the Student Center. BCN wrote a Z19/VA 3451 instruction sheet, which was modified by WMY, and printed up for distribution. Publications Report: 300 Form B's and 200 continuation forms were printed at Beane. This should last the year. The Emacs and Fortran manuals, along with MS51 memos were distributed to dormitories. The Senior House manual rack lock key is in Gill's room; he should bring it back to the office. There are new Emacs and Fortran User's Guide addenda on the way. Other: BCN will be acting as terminal chairman for Next House. Barmar came in at this point. Applications: Schmitt, Margaret: $50 for editing more course papers. Has had $260 so far. Given. Spofford, John: $50 for an STS-400J term paper. Has already had $200. Given. Next House: (BCN, representative) Program for room lottery for Next House. 350 residents. Wants $100. Given, 4 to 3, for the learning value. DeWitt, Mark: His warning form was re-read (see last week's meeting). It turns out that his term project for 11.230 is to re-write his fraternity constitution. He was turned back on. Autoed applications were finessed before the meeting. Total: $2,480, all Student Autoed: Student: $2,205 370: $0 To meeting: $275, by EC: $0 Coop: $180 Other Other: DCP needs Massachusetts Resident tax forms. ZRM would like to know if anyone is hungry. WMY has written an ITS Fido varient for Multics, called Felix. He will keep people informed. RK's former boss at WANG has left in the two weeks since RK did. "Raiders..." is playing at the Fresh Pond Cinema. "Clash of the Titans" has re-opened. The Marcel's "Blue Moon" album will be played Thursday night at midnight on WCGY. If you go to Hawaii you can get genuine, gold-plated cockroaches. Cambridge resident voters should vote Tuesday on the Proposition 2.5 delaying bill. There is a prototype LSC slide on the board. Comment on it. LSC explained that they would raise their admission prices if the ASA institutes the 10% LSC tax. The Shakespeare Ensemble is putting on As You Like It, from Thursday through Tuesday. Meeting was adjourned at 20:36. Minutes taken and submitted by archy ("May old acquaintence be forgot...").
