\section{Terminals and Telecommunications}
In addition to providing students with accounts on machines, part of
the SIPB's mission has been to provide students the ability to connect
to these machines.

Before Multics went away, SIPB maintained a collection of terminals in
various living groups and in the Student Center Library. The Student
Center library had seven display terminals and a medium speed printer.
Four of the display terminals were hard-wired to Multics at 480 cps
and three were on 120 cps dialups for access to other computers on
campus.

Terminals and modems were rented to living groups for use in terminal
rooms. The rent paid for service contracts on the equipment. In
1986, SIPB decided to sell the terminals and equipment to living
groups that wanted them.

SIPB has loaned terminals to other student organizations that needed
temporary computer access, such as the annual loan of terminals and
modems to the R/O center for use with Clearinghouse.
