Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 860120

	The meeting was called to order at 1935 by wcs.

	Treasurer's Report:

No treasurer tonight, and no spending reports.  How to spend our Multics
dough?  Undergrad accounts on Multics?  Accounts for everything but text
editing?  Subsidize Anathema x9700 printing?  Undergrads are getting screwed,
according to the Chairman.  It's unfair to do extra stuff for grad students
and do nothing for undergrads.  (Opening up for accounts for everyone would be
a lot of work, so how about a multicsreg program running on Athena's
vaxstations?  :-)) Laserwriter?  We can't go over budget, or we cause problems
for Jim Bruce.  WCS will ask Jim Bruce about it.  Motion made to open up to
undergrads.

	Chairman's Report:

Chairman intends to get around to writing a proposal.  Chairman's hair is too
long, but his brother is in town.

	Office Report:

Meilin wants a micro assembler for IBM PC, for work.  December 16 minutes
calls office a mess, and claims that it would be completely redone.  One
helpful event would be a drop from the Green Building of Anathema
documentation....  The Mac is getting fixed, and will be back on Wednesday,
$225 for power supply replacement.  Cliff says power supply is much cheaper
than that.  Service contract: do we want one on the Mac?  Yes.  Even if it's
$200 a year.  People who are doing office manual stuff, get it done.  Stop
leaving half-empty soda cans around.

	Social Committee:

When we get a new list of Coke products, we'll get some more stuff.  If
there's demand for Pepsi, we'll get that too.

	Anathema Report:

Has Athena done anything about the suggestion_box?  No.  Neither have we.  Eva
will be back soon, and her head will roll if our modems aren't installed.

	Computer Services:

Somebody (Aya?  Carla?) should call (DBaron?  LRyan?) about getting the
Multics lines set up.  They're here, but we have no connectors and they appear
to be inactive.  MINITS appears to be working again, despite previously
screwing up the subnet.  Ramin had said it was broken.

	Telecommunications Report:

Student Center Multics terminal room?  Quite wasted space.  RF wasn't
listening to Aya, thought she was talking about users in underwear; she was
talking about having Z19 terminals.  Old and new Telecom chairpeople are
charged with reporting on them: how many, where are they, etc.  Many terminals
in dorms are not purchased yet.  Have to get things straightened out....
Meilin will call the fraternities.

	IAP Report:

Cliff's class is going good, 25-30 people.  He's giving a talk on Kerberos on
Wednesday.  RF wants people to man the fishbowl Wednesday for proctoring his
hack tournament.  Charon and three other Athena machines will be used for it.
Seven hours.  Yuck, I'm going to Cliff's talk at 11:30.  RF said we'd get
pizza for participants, but Athena said no.  So, we're spending about $50 for
it.

	Other:

Someone wanted COOP account.  Alumnus wanting to pay cash to keep account
after graduation.

	The meeting was adjourned at 2031.5 by wcs.
