Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 02/1/93


	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by warlord.
	
	In attendance were

	Treasurer's Report:
		We bought Managing UUCP and Netnews
		LaTeX book is still not bound, but should be this week

	Chairman's Report:
		Next week is EC and officer elections
		Mail will be sent out tomorrow regarding who is available
			for positions

	Office Report:
		We have new machines
			Binkley, VS3100 up and running
			Oliver, RS6000 up and running
			Milquetoast, VS3100 dead and waiting for
					DEC field circus
		West side of office was rewired.  Thanks to yandros.
		Oliver-Binkley is now Yaz where Quiche was.  This will go
			away sometime soon.

	MIT Computing Report:
		Power outage on East side of campus last night.
		Some dialups crashed.  Many other things went down.

		Grosbeak got fixed.

        Computer Services:
		News cutover happened and people are complaining and there
			was much rejoicing and people got to see marthag
			bounce.
		If anyone gets complaints, they should be sent to
			usenet@athena, *NOT* marthag@athena
		ghudson has installed a buggy new windowmanager ctwm in
			the windowmanager locker (sort of like vtwm)
		Picayune should become Charon sometime soon
		Deathtongue was moved to 7.4 and has a two page list of
			bugs.  If you find a bug, write it down and send
			it to bug-sparc.  (Check if it's already been
			reported)  eg, xterm is not setuid root, which
			is a pain.
		We will run 7.4H on some machines.  We can decide later
			which machines these will be.

        SIPB AFS Cell Backup Report:
		It is still running.  Problems getting it done because
			ethernet kept getting disconnected (see office report)

	Publications Report:
		We are out of iLaTeX, unless they are hidden somewhere.
		jhbrown has volunteered to get more.  jweiss moves to get
			250. bert seconds.  Discussion of revising iLaTeX.
			dcctdw feels we should request smaller chunks.
			marthag feels bigger chunks less frequently is better.
			jweiss revises motion to get 150.  motion passes
			many-0-mhpower

		We are out of Coke, though the Coke pusher is around.
		He says he'll get more.

		There is a bookstore in (216) [cleveland area] that has 650K
			books orderable via modem!
		German software company is employing a sneaky ploy to prevent
			pirating.
