Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 04/12/93


	The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by mkgray.

	Treasurer's Report:

		He's here.  He's awake.  Mkgray went to talk to kathy
about Mac Drives, but she wasnt there.

		We have tape, we have staples.

	Chairman's Report:

		We introduce ourselves.  A lot of new prospectives.
mkgray explains what it means to be a prospective.

		adam@mc -- losing his electronic home at brandeis.
Can he move his stuff to HP?  He could sys-admin the HP.  Not a good idea.
Quota on sipb6 will increase.

	Office Report:

		Stapler is falling apart.

		Something was supposed to happen to the air vents. He
came in, and decided to do the work tomorrow.

		All the office machines have a new xlogin.  We need to
make sure they were patched from the correct sources.

		Mkgray has called colin patterson about HP.. He's
never in.  How can you get ahold of him?  We'd like one, but he's
never in.

		Try to convert the phones to actually pick up the
ringing phone?

		Can we get an extra IP address and name for the office
for portable machines?  We might want to get some serial cables for
the machines.  We need at least 4 mutant DEC serial cables.

	MIT Computing Report:

		Both hp-eval and dec-eval are gone.  Good riddance to
dec-eval.  We miss hp-eval.  What is the time scale for new printers?

		18.176 in E40 basement.  Because 18.72 is overloaded.

        Computer Services:

		Charon hung and was rebooted.  It needed to be power
cycled.

		Anything for the new charon?  What isn't done?
Copying homedirs and discuss meeting?  Gameserver stuff?  Desupport
the gameserver?  People supposedly use the boggle server.

		Help fastcart move webster?  Currently only snork is
running websterd. It needs to be running on multiple machines.  The
dictionary should be on the local disk (even on snork) So, who can
help move charon?  jweiss and jtkohl volunteer to help.

		Beacon services?  Athena wants the Micro-Vaxen back...
People should move the services off onto new-charon.

		1 gig drive... Replacements have come in.  We should
find out about ours.  We need a SCSI cable.  Allocate $100 for
purchase of SCSI cable? many-0-2.

		nihongo locker... We can probably reclaim it soon.

		HP -- running old OS.  We were going to fix this?  We
pinged bill -- he will try to deal. otherwise we will do something
else.

		Buy a 3c503 etherlink 2 card for quiche!  This was
approved a long time ago!

		Move to terminate.

        SIPB AFS Cell Backup Report:

		Backup is underway...

	Publications Report:

		We have publications.  Low on iAthena?  We need to try
to rewrite iAthena.

		SIPB publication: "add sipb"?  Electronic and paper.
In techinfo. (SIPB newsletter).  resNet updates, sipb programs and
services, what is the SIPB, Athena lockers, trivia,
question-of-the-week, etc.  1/month. Volunteers: yoav, nsanders,
winston, gsstark.  dkk and mkgray are willing to work on it.  We need
a volunteer to run it (on the outset) dcctdw volunteers.

	R/O Report:

		No volunteers, yet.

		Pusher was here. He left.  We have coke.  We are out
of ice-cream.  Drink coke!

		Marc got a new jacket.

		4 bulletin boards in 38 on 3rd floor. (38-344) They
are going to go away tomorrow.  They could go away tonight, without
any arguments.

		Grand Duke (G&S) is this weekend.

		Spaceward Ho, 3.0 will appear on the Mac RSN.. Punt
time.
