Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 03/15/1999 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by gisele. In attendance were Voting members: jered gisele amu foley zacheiss elliot | jfmurphy yak Associate members: cordelia nathanw fastcart jmmikkel mcmullan mhpower | shabby yandros yoav Non-voting members: Prospectives: kilroi kolya mwp@mwpnet.com int18 gamache nemo lnemzer xela mrbonk deberg ansbergc dmaze | golem Guests: Treasurer's Report: foley: I did out the numbers. According to the numbers I have, we have $3500 in the operating budget and $8200 in the equipment budget, including mycroft's clock. I'm not certain about the cost of the monitor on snork, though. I'm working on a spreadsheet that people can look at. Chairman's Report: gisele: This is not in reference to any one particular event: If you are in the office, using a SIPB machine, replying to mail sent to sipb, webmaster, or other SIPB help list, other people may think you are representing the SIPB, and you should assume that they will make that assumption. You should take this into consideration. Things that could be perfectly acceptable at home may not be in SIPB. If any of this doesn't make sense or you want to disagree, talk to me later. Office Report: xela: Based on last week's treasurer's report, I didn't do any more work on chairs. Now that we know we have money, I will pick it up again. jweiss [through gisele]: I move to get rid of the monitor in the corner on the floor near the bookshelves, at the discretion of the Office Czar in Charge of Special Operations. [zacheiss seconds, white-ballot, passes] yandros: We ordered some computers a while ago, except that we didn't. Dell screwed up, and then greg and I both thought the other dealt, so we didn't. So we're going to order computers tomorrow, and they may even be cheaper than they were before. Office Cleaning Report: mwp@mwpnet.com: I was around Sunday afternoon [when the randomized zephyrs occured] and the office was very empty, so I wouldn't be surprised if the cleaning didn't happen. fastcart: The randomization should be constrainted to Monday-Friday. gisele: The back of the office is a pit. People should make things go to the appropriate places. fastcart: Take down soda cans. MIT Computing Report: zacheiss: geryon lost a disk this morning; it's currently being restored from a backup from earlier this morning. Computer Services: '() SIPB Backup Report: nathanw: I think picayune failed earlier today and is running again. fastcart: There was a tape left in the drive from March 4 that was unlabeled, nobody knows what it was, so it's just labelled with the date. yandros: The tape left in the drive was dandelion-patch. Penguin-lust and bloom-picayune have been done. Publications Report: fastcart: The map on the back of the cluster cards doesn't have N42. To whom can we suggest it be added? jfmurphy: Heather Harrison's answer last time was that they couldn't do it because it made everything on campus looked too squished. Orientation Report: gisele: There's a whole bunch of prospective students coming on the weekend of April 8-11. Student activities have been asked to hold some kind of event for these students. Is there anybody who would be interested in coming up with something the SIPB could do? xela: Something like the R/O computer tours comes to mind. I can help, but I don't have the time to organize. gisele: People should think about organizing this during Spring Break...I'll send mail about this. IAP Report: '() Anniversary Report: gisele: We are still looking for more people to help with organizing stuff. We have 2 people signed up already, but it'd help to have another person so that no one person is hosed, since the second half of the semester is usually mind-numbingly fast. We will at some point decide how much money we want to spend on this activity. We're looking to do something in May before all the students leave for the summer. CokeComm Report: fastcart: We have coke and candy! Other: nathanw: I'm going to talk about RCS after the meeting. jered: Andy Ellis is in the office. yandros: While playing a Guild game last night, I discovered that SIPB member David Rho has a son. Other Other: mrbonk: epoxy is sticky. xela: In June, there will be the TBS Original Movie on TNT, "The Pirates of Silicon Valley"; the story of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, ego and greed. elliot: On a similar note, this week I am going to San Jose to look for jobs. (With a lowercase 'J') cordelia: I am now residing fairly permanently in the Boston area, although I am not a Massachusetts resident. The name of my apartment is "The Test Bed". There was no sexual innuendo intended when we named it. dmaze: Yay, new toy for my birthday! [PalmPilot] elliot: Next week is Spring Break! lnemzer: I'm going to Seattle this weekend to let people take Microsoft's money from me. shabby: It's my birthday too. yoav: It's not my birthday, but it's Sal's birthday in two days. The meeting was adjourned at 19:46. Minutes taken and submitted by jered.
