Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 04/5/1999


The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by gisele.

Treasurer's Report:
	jered: The Treasurer is in Japan.

	jweiss: I got mail from the person who deals with our office
		budget saying that we should spend our money given the
		end of the fiscal year approaching.  The end of the
		fiscal year is in June, but it's easier for them if
		things are purchased and completed by the end of the
		fiscal year.  They're also being asked for finalized
		budget projections for the rest of fiscal '99.
	hartmans: I hope we'll be spending a substantial portion of
		that on chairs.

Office Cleaning Report:
	jweiss: I saw zephyrs on Sunday when I was at home. I did not
		take the opportunity to clean my living room.

	gisele: It doesn't look very clean, so people should try
		to clean up some.

MIT Computing Report:

Computer Services:
	jweiss: Hardware arrived, it includes the new AFS server and
		the new news CPU.  It may have even made it's way
		over to W20. [Confirmed.]

SIPB Backup Report:
	jweiss: Some lossage occured on portnoy. We think it's mostly
		fixed. 
	gisele: AFS is happening now.

Publications Report:
	belmonte: We're basically full. We only have 7 installing
		Linux-Athena left.
	jhawk: There's a box underneath the desk. [There are many 
		copies now.]
	gisele: Someone should make sure that it gets updated, it's
		somewhat out of date.

Orientation Report:
	pipa: CPW (Campus Preview Weekend) is this weekend, there will 
		be approximately 800 prefrosh running around the 'tute.

IAP Report:

Anniversary Report:
	gisele: Last week at the short meeting we decided it would
		be good to have a barbeque followed by some Ultimate
		as opposed to hanging around a poorly ventilated 
		boring room. Alums have asked that we have it over
		Tech Days (the weekend immediately following graduation)
		as they will be in town.  If we want to do it that
		weekend, I was able to find BBQ space on campus, 
		despite Tech Days.  I want to take a quick straw
		poll on people's preferences.  Choices for the
		the reunion are Tech Days (June 5/6), an
		earlier weekend in May (more convenient for
		students), or don't care (both are ok/suck):

	pipa: The SIPB Jersey order is going in by the end of the week.
		If you still haven't ordered, do so. If you haven't paid
		me, you should pay me.  There's a file in my Public
		called jerseyorder.text.

	mycroft: I'm really glad that Bill Clinton was never my Commander
		in Chief.

	jweiss: My pager got confused about this whole spring-backwards/
		fall-forwards concept.

	jered: There is a great evil afoot where building 20 used to be.

	xela: What is the airspeed velocity of a SIPB jersey-wearing
		swallow?

	cordelia: Having one's office go from 4 people to yourself
		really really sucks.
