Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 14 April 1980 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by archy. In attendance were Richard Soley, archy, CAH, RLL, c|, BARMAR, GMP, ALAN, WER, Jay Pattin, NAHA, KHS, RDM, Charity, RK, CWH, and ZRM. Late were: RMP, ACW, DGH, GHuber, JSL, and DCP. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted. DCP and GHuber came in at this point. Treasurer's Report: We have spent $5515.80 so far this month. Our spending has not gone up at all. We are still not spending enough. Along these lines, all of the "Never Type Anything Twice" posters were put up. Someone picked up stuff from Beane for $9 and paid for it out of his/her own pocket; if it was you, see RLL. Perhaps we need another LSC slide; RK and DCP will work on it. Chairman's Report: The chairman has started the letter to Paul Grey about IPC being moved. DGH and RMP came in at this point. Office Report: TKCO. We have more NUMS and NETS! HGA and KHS did a major redistribution of the tops of cabinets and desks; it wins. The book sign-out list is somewhat inaccessible; it must be moved. The office still has an old refrigerator; the guy who came in last week can't afford it now. If you can get a bid > $40, take it. JSL came in at this point. We still need SpinWriter ribbons; they have been ordered. We are again keeping track of ECS spending; it is to the left of the daily mail sheets. IPC Bulletins, which come in every 2 months, need to be put in the Bulletin binder. Do so when they come in. DPC snarfed a New Whole XGP Fonts Catalogue for the office. Recharging the refrigerator will cost about $35. There was a motion that the SIPB pay for the recharge - fails. The office was waxed last Thursday. Al, our usual waxer, has put in for Campus Patrol; he won't be waxing our floor anymore. Computer Services: CAH wrote a graphics dim for the Retro- Graphics 512. Paul Green has left CISL. The SIPB Attic has about 80 records left. There was a motion that >nbdd>sipb>Attic no longer have a separate quota cell from >nbdd>sipb. There was an alternate motion to give *.SIPBADMIN sma on >nbdd>sipb. Passes. There was a motion to buy another 1000 records of nbdd - Passes. An unofficial office policy was set that Coop accounts should be limited to $500 (i.e., brought to meeting again if the user reaches $500). CS Report: CAH reimplemented the runtime system in PL/1. CAH announced that he and GMP might give a short course in CS for those who might be interested in working on it this summer. Telecommunications Report: There seems to be a software bug in the IO Daemon that causes the output device to beep and quit while outputting the tailsheet. It seems to be happening on the LA120 and the SpinWriter. The Random Hall terminal is working now. There was a motion to buy the ADM3A screen with the Retro-Graphics option, with a service contract, as our graphics terminal. Since Course 6 is locking up Delphi and hooking all of their terminals to their DEC-20, we need to find some place to put new terminals and put them there. On the motion to buy an ADM3A with Graphics - Passes. There was a motion to sell the SpinWriter to IPC on the condition that it remain running the way it is - Passes. ACW came in at this point. Publications Report: We got NUMS and NETS; a postering was done. We need new Form B's and Emacs handouts. JSL will take care of the Emacs handouts. Publicity Report: We will have another LSC slide next week. See the blackboard this week. Other: RMSoley has just finished a huge move of old minutes (from 1976 to 1979) to the SIPB Attic (>udd>sipb>attic>m>old_minutes) to get rid of the huge amounts of space we are using on MC. There was talk of a field trip to the DEC mill in Maynard. Applications: Carley, Dr. Adam A MIT '61, unknown amount, for personal text editing papers, letters, patents. (Coop) Given. TCA (Steve Schwartz), $250, for doing HowToGAMIT. Given by EC vote. Sinclair, Ken, $50, for continuation: learning Multics, Lisp, etc. Given. Kaplan, Bruce, no amount, for CMS, for analysis of survey on small claims court. Deferred until he shows up. $1280 Student, $0 ECS; $1280 total autoed. $0 Coop $250 by EC vote. $0 VM $50 by meeting. Total: $1580 (not including Coop). Other Other: Hopefully everyone noticed the interesting nose gear that ALAN is wearing tonight, in honor of the Seventh Era of the Unicycle. Blue forms from IAP need to be filed with the regular old forms. The office should get a Macsyma manual! Soley will buy one tomorrow. DCH, before he left in 1976, retyped all the old minutes that needed to be typed! The office manual is still on the board; comment on it. The meeting was adjourned at 22:00. Minutes taken and submitted by Richard Mark Soley.
