Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 28 April 1980 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by RLL. In attendance were Richard Soley, CAH, GMP, RK, DGH, RMP, archy, KHS, RLL, NAHA, NML, JAY, WER, RDM, ZRM, BARMAR, HGA, and Gonzo. Late were: DPC, Ghuber, and JIS. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted. Treasurer's Report: We have spent $10607 so far this month. DPC came in at this point. We had some trouble this week with BayBank; they said that RLL was not an authorized signer, punted a CWBeane check, and did not put the money back in the account. RK convinced them that they were wrong, they are correcting things. There was a motion to move our account to Cambridgeport Savings. It Will Be Done. GHuber came in at this point. We have spent roughly $65,000 so far this year. ***User Interrupt*** Hayes, Tom, no amount, course syllabus, saving old exam questions from his course, learn text editing. He is an Lowell Institute instructor taking courses at MIT. Deferred until after RMP helps him try to find other money. Chairman's Report: The chairman was involved in representing Computing at MIT for some visiting professors from the University of Wales. They seem interested in Multics. The chairman also had lunch this week with Dean Holden. The new UAP, UAVP, and other assorted student government type people were also there. There were discussions about the loss of course six's terminal room, text processing being on the increase, etc. The chairman asked for another $95,000 budget for next year. Also: next week are office elections! Be there. No campaigning will be allowed! Mr. Charlie Hornig (CAH) was given (very belatedly) a gavel for his service as Chairman of the SIPB. Office Report: There is a new pair of scissors. HGA rearranged the books. The office was found unattended and unlocked TWICE last week. This Must Not Happen. Ancient applications were found in Limbo by DGH. They will be attended to. HGA came in at this point. When someone calls in a gronked terminal, you MUST write a trouble report and Call It In If You Can! When you note trouble about a terminal, put it with the (stapled together) old forms about that terminal. There are a lot of Spinwriter ribbons out; this is because they contain no more than enough for one or two pages. There seem to be problems with the SIPBTEXT tools. They will be looked at. The office documentation is being garbage collected and replaced by CAH and HGA. It was noted that we do not have an IBM Index to Publications. This will be corrected. ***User Interrupt*** SCEP called (now); they need another $100 in the "SCEP" account. $50 was given to SCEP, $100 to SCEP1. Computer Services: The Spinwriter software is being rewritten by CAH. New documentation is on its way. We will no longer be logged in csrlog, but in sipb_log. CS Report: There was some discussion about the CS class mentioned two weeks ago (offered by CAH). There will be a class Saturday, May 10 at 2:00 P.M., probably here. Telecommunications Report: The Student Center LA36 is now working. The LA120 is still dead. A DEC repairman was here today, however. The Student Center LA36 and Random House LA36 were switched this past week. The dead Teleray in the student center is still in that state. (The terminal is fine; the connection is dead.) The New House terminal is broken. Publications Report: The Emacs handout was printed. Publicity Report: The LSC slide seems to have been a winner. JCG has a prototype Tech ad; it's on the board. There were various suggestions such as LSC slides, handouts, and ads. There are some suggestions on the board. Other: There was an election for membership for Jay Pattin. There were 16 Full Active Members present. The vote was 14 for, 0 against, and 2 abstentions. The changes in the Spinwriter software were affected during the meeting. Honeywell announced new, cheaper, smaller, hardware last week. Richard Barnes is leaving CISL. CISL has job openings, possibly for the summer. See CAH.
