	Treasurer's Report:

Last month's total spending was $14724.05, the most
		profligant month in five years.

So far this month we have spent $1329.63.

So far this year we have spent $79,287.33 out of
$95,000. We may spend $90,000 if present trends
		continue.

The treasurer checked the price of blue boxes (for
terminal line debugging) has skyrocketed from $75 of a
few years ago to $210. RLL will check around to see
if he can locate the old manufacturer.

The treasurer talked to Duplex about quality-print
paper. The price has gone up $2/Ksheet to $13/Ksheet.
They promise delivery in 1.5 months. We still have 2
boxes left, and RLL suggests that we wait until the
new fiscal year to order more.

The ADM 3A should be shipped and installed within a
week. Where have we heard that before? (See previous
		minutes.)

RLL talked with Mr. Flynn at the Registrar's
scheduling office about using the Registrar's two
phones at the Midway. We will call Mr. Flynn again
late in the summer to verify this. We are getting two
additional phones for the Midway as well.

	Chairman's Report:

The Chairman and Treasurer went to talk to Wes about
the possible relocation of the Center. Mr. Burner had
heard even fewer rumors about the relocation than we
had. We will keep communications channels open with
Mr. Burner, who seems fairly committed to keeping
essential services (like consulting) on the main
		campus.

The Center's summer courses will be given without too
much ideological change. The chairman talked to Ms.
Dorothy Corbett and assured her that SIPB would be
willing to administer the Multics part of the courses.

The Chairman was praised by Honeywell for his part in
converting some English blokes to Multism.

	Office Report:

		Penny said "KTOC" yet again.

The treasurer purchased real plates for the office, so
we don't have to suffer with paper ones.

The refrigerator was fixed so that the fan can spin
		freely.

Multics weekly stati are being saved in the back of
the treasurer's drawer. So when you get the new one,
		file the old one there.

	Computer Services:

The weekly thought it was failing but was wrong,
		luckily.

The Monthly, part 3, sent a Mayday and vanished like
		Amelia Earhart.

Mr. Palter's rumor about Honeywell's priorities for
bringing up various systems on the DPS-8 series has
turned out to be true: high level management decisions
reveal a commitment to Multics that is quite
		encouraging.

Gary Palter reports that the editor TED is installed
in Phoenix and will soon be installed at MIT, tangling
		the documentation issue still further.

	Telecommunications Report:

The lines to the Student Center will be examined,
maybe, at some future date, to determine which ends
correspond with which. But since the lines are
working at the moment, the need to do this exploratory
		surgery is not urgent.

	*** TPURRETNI RESU ***

There was a telecommunications budget meeting on
Wednesday. More discussion on the possible
		allocations of our telecommunications budget.

The chairman spent some time with the Spinwriter
manual and the Spinwriter, diddling dipswitches to try
to make the right thing happen when the terminal runs
out of ribbon. No available protocol does exactly the
		right thing. Research will continue.

RLL has borrowed the office acoustic coupler.

		We have 30 Spinwriter ribbons.

	Publications Report:

A new NETS master is needed. Page 22 is missing from
the current master, and all the pages are headed "Page
		<n> of <blank>".

J9 is still planning to look through the Emacs
documentation to find out which parts are
		incomprehensible to the naive user.

Page 22 of the NETS was found. It is not part of the
runoff file, which is why it was left out.

	R/O Report:

The freshman letter will be done shortly by ACW for
		inclusion in the freshman mailing.

	Other:

Charlie Hornig arrived safely in France.

		A quality-print destined for RBurke at USER-ACCOUNTS
was filed incomprehensibly in the "H to P" stack.
Please deliver dprints with destinations on them.

There is a SIPB-MINUTES mailing list.

	Applications:

Robert Proctor wants $50 more, to finish his article
for the American Mathematical Monthly. Given.

		Total appropriations: $1160 without Coop
		  Autoed: $910, all Student.
		  To Meeting: $250, all Student.
		Coop: $70

	Other Other:

Zorbaz is now a Chinese restaurant, and seems fairly
		good, although quite expensive.

There is another Chinese restaurant on Mass Ave., Wu
Fu, which used to be the Kim Lin palace.

Rob Phipps and Linda Lampron graduated today. Also
Carl Hoffman and Jeannine Mosely (Engineer's degree).

There are Tall Ships in the harbor.

The meeting was adjourned at 2130.
