Cutter is running a server for xvolume that takes requests from
xvolume clients and manages the hardware for xvolume (connected to the
parallel port).  Changes for xvolume are:

The volume daemon (source lives in /afs/sipb/user/xiphmont/vol) placed
/usr/sbin/voldaemon

symlink from /dev/volume to /dev/lp1

the following entry in inittab:
v:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/voldaemon
