I spend enough time in the office that I really get tired of it
looking so pitly. After dkk and I rearranged the front of the office,
and I hosed down the cabinets, I decided to do something about it.

However, since democracy and absentee landlordship haven't worked all
that well, we're going to give dictatorship a try. This means a few
rules. For now, I've only got one in mind:

Any long term storage of personal items in the office at large can
only be done on the Office Czar's approval. (Hint: this means if it
doesn't fit in your drawer, IT DOESN'T STAY HERE! I will try to work
on a reasonable exemption for backpacks and such - but not for tape
	drives.)

There are a few other things that I'd like to clear up, but don't need
to make rules about yet:

Recyclables - I threw away a bunch of the "worthless" recyclables such
as 2 liter bottles and glass bottles. (I think the janitor will do
something with them, he asked me if we were really throwing them
away.) Unless someone commits to recycling the non-deposit materials,
I will Strongly Suggest throwing them away.
I'll take a bunch of cans down to LaVerde's this afternoon. If
a couple of people VOLUNTEER to help, we can get everything down
today... and after that, lets discuss limiting the amount of recycling
trash about the office:
	(a) Is recycling a Service that SIPB offers the community? If
not, we should move the box away from the door.
	(b) If it is more convenient to deliver flats of cans to
LaVerde's, perhaps we should only have cardboard flats in front of the
office, and not have the big plastic bag.

Random (non-SIPB) Junk - There will be space reserved for the AUCTION
BLOCK. Things that I find (like, for example, the "Hazel R109" red
vinyl portfolio with MIT Logo) that are clearly "lost" and need good
homes. Anything I put there will be tagged with a "termination
date"... if you can identify or claim it, take it and/or let me know -
if it appears elsewhere in the office without an explanation to me, it
gets pitched.
I am half-seriously considering accepting bids for these
items, perhaps giving the money to the SIPB stereo fund :-) Proposals
are welcomed.

NERO junk - there is the wreckage of what looks like a few weapons;
there is also some sheet aluminum. All of this should either go away
or get pleaded for within the next two weeks.

SIPB Junk - There are three boxes of toner cartridges on the front
shelves which appear to be opened, and therefore (I assume) used. They
are not date labelled. Why are we keeping them? Lacking a reason, how
do we dispose of them?
We have a few old modems, a Kinetics box, and an old
Imagewriter (with an MIT property tag on it.) Does anyone know if the
imagewriter works, and is it at all worth hooking up? Most of this
hardware can be reasonably stored, but should all be tagged somehow
before burying it (like we seem to have done to the Amiga.)

Thank you for your attention.

This is good. Wasn't it obvious that I wasn't doing any work as Office
Manager? I was wondering when people would stop harrassing me asking me
about a drawer in the office. I didn't mind being Pit Manager at first,
but I just realized that most people just want to be slobs and everyone
else just suffers. I wasn't going to clean up after people --- that's
for sure.

Well, I just want to say "Congrats, Mark!"

I just had a visit from Rose Needham, the Campus Activities manager.
She's very upset about the state of the office. She claims that her
cleaning people haven't been allowed in to clean the office for a very
long time (once they were told that since someone was sleeping, they
couldn't run the vacuum cleaner).

She's amazingly upset (not at me, of course -- we women know the
importance of a clean room, but those horrible men don't know how to
pick up after themselves ;-). Apparently, some higher-ups will be
holding an inspection of the building next week, and she wants
everything to look its best.

She's very upset about the ripped chairs that are spewing foam bits all
over the floor. She claims that she may be able to get them repaired
or replaced. She felt so bad for us that she even brought us a chair.

Someone on the EC really should call her rather soon before she starts
to take drastic measures. She apparently sent a sample of the black
stains on our carpet off to some lab to have them analyzed, and
discovered that they were caused by the caramel coloring in Coke
(suprise, surprise).

She can be reached at x3-3913. She's almost always there
6pm-midnight, but she's often around at other times as well.

I'd like a drawer in the SIPB office next term. A small one is okay,
though (probably like most people) I prefer to have it to myself if
it isn't large....
let me know. I'm email-available at dmitri@athena.mit.edu like always.

Well, I've graduated, moved away, and am moving back.

I am certainly willing to give away my drawer.

... but, might it be possible to have an "alum drawer"? The fact of the
matter is that though I use very little of my drawer, it's a real handy
place to put things every now and then. Sort of a bitbucket or /tmp for
stuff.

(it's under the Sun ("everything under the sun" :), labeled with the
moniker "wlcarrol" )

If Richard and I convince George to let us sort through the CokeComm

share) enough to fit it into the drawer we currently have (the top
drawer of cabinet #2) or smaller, could we switch drawers?

My current SIPB drawer is really getting to be too small. I'm sharing
a drawer (one of the smallest size) with John Kohl. That used to be
enough, but I've been encroaching more and more on John's part of the
drawer, and could use some more space.
