Welcome to the SIPB Linux Installation Documentation directory. The files in this directory are compiled from various locations will help you find out more about installing Linux and using it on MITnet with Athena. README -- This file INFO-SHEET -- A basic description of Linux and the hardware it runs on. Hardware-HOWTO -- A list (with some comments) of hardware compatible with Linux. This is somewhat out of date. XFree86-HOWTO -- How to setup XFree86. Lists compatible chipsets. Installation-HOWTO -- A (fairly old) file detailing how to install Linux on your system. It was written for Slackware, so a RedHat install is a bit different. UMSDOS-HOWTO -- A file describing UMSDOS and what to do with it. fips.doc -- The documentation for FIPS... a NONDESTRUCTIVE way of partitioning your hard drive! linux-net-install.dvi -- A SIPB document which summarizes how to install Linux on your system, with specific information about installing it on MITnet. linux-athena.dvi -- A SIPB document which details how to set up your Linux box to be compatible with Athena software. This is about to be obsoleted by our RedHat install procedures but may be a useful reference. RedHat-HOWTO -- A dated file on how to install RedHat. Not entirely relevant on Athena. slackware.disksets -- A file which briefly describes the contents of the various Slackware 3.0.0 disksets. Version numbers might be slightly off.
