		Guests:

	Treasurer's Report:
The treasurer feels the same as he always did. But
you should feel free to come to him with your treasured needs.

	Chairman's Report:
The Chairman has the Treasurer's money. He will give
it back to the Treasurer after the meeting if the Treasurer reminds
him.

User celine doesn't want his account to go away. He
tried to bribe us with services and/or hardware. We don't want to be
in the business of selling accounts.

	Office Report:
		The phone is still busted!

We have a new bulletin board hanging on the wall.

We have a new MIT campus network map.

Machine room: The network was rearranged (we traded
long cables for short ones). The old ronald-ann has been retired. We
still need to rearrange power. This will require an outage. sipb-vax
(old charon) is ready to go away once it gets newfs'd. Ops will be
told they can haul it away at anytime. Beacon can join it soon (see
computer services).

The new card key system is installed in the machine
room. We have cards. The cards don't work. If they do, and you
don't know the new procedures, don't go in! If you need the combo,
ask someone who is likely to know, since many people do.

	MIT Computing Report:
power hit thursday. Charon was completely hosed for a
long time, DEC had to field-service it. However, thanks to ckclark's
and others' hard work, charon is back up to where it was before the
power hit.

The dialups are using a new load-balancing nameserver.
The code is supposedly better, and it runs on a decstation.

However, people are still trying to use cluster
machines as dialups. Be on the lookout for this.

        Computer Services:

jtkohl is almost ready to retire beacon. It should
happen in the next several days.

Charon is out of swap. It can't handle all the
services we're trying to run. This is weird, as we have more swap
space than we had about a week ago. Nobody really knows what
happened.

marthag updated the news servers to INN 1.4, and then
promptly left the state. Since then, one server has run out of
memory, and the other is out of processes. Chad is whining. However,
trn now works with the server-side threads database.

svalente has updated quiche to run the new linux
networking code. it's much less broken now.

Is there a demand for software like Norton Utilities
on Cutter? There is a little now, but not a lot. aragorn speculates
that resnet will increase lossage, and we might get more requests.
Opinion varies. We need more info, like the exact costs.

webster: jik and fastcart will be getting together so
jik can braindump everything he knows about webster to fastcart.

NeXT server: we have permission from someone in the
NeXT legal department to run the NeXT as a webster server, with the
restriction that queries run sequentially, not in parallel. What if
we do this, and milo is down or hosed? The idea is to back off to the
old webster database. This is inconsistent. What about a real
licensed webster database? Very expensive.

        SIPB AFS Cell Backup Report:

		Running.

We're using 3 2 gig tapes to back up the cell.
Currently, one volset could be 3 gig. The volsets need to be
rearranged.

	Publications Report:

		iZephyr is getting done.

iPS is in Central America wait.

	R/O Report:

We're waiting to hear who is actually going to do tours.

	IAP Report:

		'()

	CokeComm Report:

Running low, but not out. Jerk is not present.
Jerk's boss has Jerk committed until Wednesday. The Jerk is now here.

	Other:

Central America is running as its previous
incarnation. tlyu will be rewriting it entirely in C or Perl
sometime.

	Other Other:

Under Siege is playing at adam@mc.lcs.mit.edu's house
in about 10 minutes.

		Frisbee after the meeting.

See Jurassic park. It has a mac connected to a CM-5.

The meeting was adjourned at 19:58:18.

Minutes taken and submitted by marc.
