Subject: mail aliases, project.*charon* volumes
X-Message-Volatility: high

Can someone please tell me how to add a mail alias for a discuss
meeting on charon? I tried following the instructions in
/afs/sipb/project/dec-charon/sendmail.cf/README, and I'm certain the
aliases file and the /etc/localusers file were okay, but I keep getting
a "cannot alias non-local names" error when trying to run newaliases.
I'm beginning to think there's a bug in sendmail or something. I've
reverted everything back to the way it was when I started mucking with it.

And I'm really getting sick of these *charon* project volumes.
What the hell is next? /afs/sipb/project/spiffy-new-charon-this-is-where-you-want-to-look-and-all-the-rest-is-cruft?

Just look at this:
; fs lsm /afs/sipb/project/*charon*
'/afs/sipb/project/charon' is a mount point for volume '#project.charon'
'/afs/sipb/project/charon-backup' is a mount point for volume '%project.charon-backup'
'/afs/sipb/project/dec-charon' is a mount point for volume '%project.new-charon'
'/afs/sipb/project/new-charon' is a mount point for volume '#project.old-charon'

Oh, and none of these volumes were ever announced on sipb-afsreq, as far
as I can tell with dsgrep. So I'm announcing them now: They exist.
Someone created them at some time for some reason. There.

How come none of this ease/sendmail stuff is local to charon? I spent
forever poking around in /usr/local hoping to find it. But no, no, it's
in a *directory* named sendmail.cf (?) in some vapor-volume out in afsland.

I just hope no important mail was lost due to this confusion.
