\cenquote{``It was astonishing the number of useless things people
found to do.''}{-- R.H. Barlow and H.P. Lovecraft, "The Night Ocean"}

Even as a child, you had to deal with being second best. You were the
youngest of two children, and your parents always compared you to your
older brother, constantly pointing out how much better he was at
everything. You did well in school but weren't top of your class, like
your brother had been. You were always outclassed by the really smart
kids, and it was pretty much the same in sports, music, and anything
else you tried. You were {\it good} at everything, but you were never
the best.

After graduating from the university, you joined the \bLaundry{} and
decided that, from then on, things would be different. You were
trained as a Computational Demonologist and worked hard to ensure that
you would never be second to anyone again. You moved up in the ranks,
eventually being appointed head of the department. You were proud of
your accomplishments and content with the thought that you had finally
proved yourself and were second to none.

Lately, however, you've begun to feel like people haven't been giving
you the respect that you deserve. Despite being the best Computational
Demonologist in the \bLaundry{}, people are still condescending, and
your parents, when you talk to them, seem unimpressed. You can't tell
them what you're {\it actually} doing, of course, but you've made it
clear that you're well respected at your workplace. They can't stop
comparing you to your brother though, who is now a respected professor
at some university in the United States. Frustrated, you feel like the
only way to gain the respect of both your family and your peers is to
get to the top of the \bLaundry{}'s hierarchy, at least, at \gameloc{}.

The current head of Dunwich, \cLaundryCaptain{\intro}, isn't doing a
very good job anyway. A lot of things have been going wrong recently,
and it's been up to you to fix the problems caused by
\cLaundryCaptain{\their} incompetence. Computers have been breaking
more frequently than usual, and demons have been sporadically showing
up in shadowy areas of the base. \cLaundryCaptain{\intro} hasn't had a
clue how to deal with any of it, and if it weren't for you, everything
would be pear-shaped right now.

Nobody's past is completely clean. Perhaps you could find some dirt
on \cLaundryCaptain{\formal} that would prove \cLaundryCaptain{\they}'s not qualified for
\cLaundryCaptain{\their} job. It would get \cLaundryCaptain{\them} in
trouble, potentially even fired. There are probably some files stored
in a computer somewhere\ldots

Unfortunately, just getting \cLaundryCaptain{\formal} fired won't be
enough to put you in charge of Dunwich. \cNegotiator{\intro} is the
second-in-command and will be in charge of Dunwich if
\cLaundryCaptain{\formal} is ever incapacitated or removed from
\cLaundryCaptain{\their} station. If you want command of Dunwich,
you'll have to prove that \cNegotiator{\formal} isn't fit for the job.

This might not be too difficult though -- from what you've seen of
\cNegotiator{\them}, \cNegotiator{\formal} is somewhat unstable, and
it's getting worse every day. You might be able to use that to knock
\cNegotiator{\them} out of the picture. That's probably best for all
involved, anyway. \gameloc{} is hosting negotiations for the new
treaty with the powerful aquatic races of \bAlpha{} and \bBeta{}, and
you don't really think \cNegotiator{\formal} has the attention to run
the negotiations well. You're clearly the right person for the job --
you just have to make the people on base see the light.

\begin{itemz}[Goals]
\item Maintain the \bLaundry{}'s computers and fix any that break.
\item Find dirt on \cLaundryCaptain{\formal} and use it to implicate
  \cLaundryCaptain{\them}.
\item Find out what's going on with \cNegotiator{\formal} and use it to
your advantage.
\end{itemz}
