October 8, 2003 Dear Members of the Fraternity, Sorority, and Independent Living Group Community: The Department of Parking and Transportation and the Fraternity, Sorority, and Living Group Office is excited to announce a new program in cooperation with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to service the fraternities, sororities, and living groups in Boston. Since approximately one-quarter of the MIT undergraduates live in fraternity, sorority, and living group houses in Boston, a new Boston Shuttle to those areas of the city will aid in the daily trips students mus ttake to campus, particularly in colder months. The Shuttle will begin service immediately, and runs every day of the year. The program runs all day, 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., and costs 75 cents per trip for all riders. Passes for free travel at any time are available for $9.50 per month; contact the Parking and Transportation Office in E32-105 for details. The Boston Shuttle schedule but will begin at the Student Center, and makes trips back and forth to Boston at three stops: Start: 84 Mass Ave (Student Center) 1st Stop: Mass Ave & Beacon Street 2nd Stop: Mass Ave & Commonwealth Ave 3rd Stop: Hynes Convention Center MBTA Station Shuttles run every 5-10 minutes during the day. As this is the first of several similar shuttles we hope to offer, each Shuttle is clearly marked with the number "1" along with its destination. The Fraternity, Sorority, and Living Group Office is funding a separate program at a cost of $30,000 while the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will provide this service at cost. The service will be evaluated in December and again in March to assess its impact on the FSILG Community. This is a program that many students have asked about for many years and we are happy to begin this new initiative. Sincerely, John McDonald Assistant Director of Enterprise Services David N.
