To: e-entry@MIT.EDU Subject: Random Ravings - Sept. 21, 1993 Date: Tue, 21 Sep 93 17:56:36 EDT From: David G Gaxiola Random Ravings September 21st, 1993 ============ Mini-Table of Contents (so you can know if you just want to skip this mail entirely) - Technique Living Group Photo - 10/2 @ 3pm - Entry Dinner (you pay!) - Entry Questionnaires (get them in!) - MIT Cable (no news, but I've requested info) - Entry Sports Info (soccer only - tied 1st game?) - ARA wants to expand in MacGregor (i.e. put in arcade games) - RecRoom Info (what should we put in there?) - Where to get MacGregor related info on Athena - Other stuff This is unusually long mostly because I don't think there were HouseComm minutes for the past week. In the future I'll simply be referring you to the minutes for all House business except the most important items. ============= ENTRY RELATED ============= TECHNIQUE PORTRAIT ------------------ ********* SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2ND AT 3PM ********* This is of course the time that E-Entry has been scheduled for its living group portrait. Please make a note of it and try not to make other plans. DINNER! ------- On the evening of Friday, October 1st there is a somewhat planned dinner to Cafe Lampara at 5:30pm. I use the term "somewhat" since who ever wants to go can just show up on the second floor at or before 5:30pm on Friday and we'll just take off. Cafe Lampara features Italian cuisine. No info on pricing, but I don't think it will be too expensive. This is not an entry subsidized event. ^^^ ENTRY QUESTIONNAIRE ------------------- It's very simple: 1) Get one from Allen if you don't already have one. You should've had one either given to you the other night or slipped under your door. 2) Put your name on it. 3) Fill out any, all or none of the questions. If you don't want to fill out any, put a big line through the entire questionnaire. Alternatively you could why you think the particular question is bad or why the entire questionnaire is pointless. I encourage you to actually answer each question, eihter truthfully or with some ficticious anecdote (whichever is easier). 4) Give the questionnaire to Allen by the end of September. ^^^^^^^^^ You have a little over a week to finish it. Any questions? Talk to Allen. MIT CABLE --------- I have no clue as to what is the deal with the new MIT cable television service, but I've sent e-mail to a person in MIT Telecommunications (randy@mit). Hopefully I'll get an answer in a day or two. ENTRY SPORTS ------------ Apparently the only sports going on in the near future is soccer. If you want more details talk to Anthony. I think we tied our first game but I didn't write it down and can't remember at the moment. HOUSE NEWS ========== ARA WANTS TO ADD TO CONVENIENCE ------------------------------- Since we now have this really cool convenience store serving all of West Campus, ARA is thinking of adding arcade games to the dining hall area and generally make the place more of a social area by having the tables up and about. We may or may not see money out of this from the arcade games. In any case, it certainly doesn't hurt MacGregor as we might see an increased flow of pople and it can only add to what we have right now. RECROOM UPDATE -------------- After putting in mega-tons of money into the Weight Room, the next logical place to modernize is of course the RecRoom. The questions are what and how? Besides fixing up the current equipment that's there their's some thought about putting in a stereo and removing the juke box that's currently there. Also, there is talk of putting in a TV and VCR combo into the TV lounge. Since you are all the residents of MacGregor what do you want to see in the RecRoom? There was also an idea to install a Neo*Geo system. Neo*Geo, for those that don't know, is a really high end video game system (from what I've seen in stores, prices for games for Neo*Geo are generally _at least_ twice as much as for SuperNES or Genesis, but are really arcade qulity). It is so high end that it can actually be found in arcades. People would be able to play Neo*Geo games for free with games being changed about every week. Whether or not the House should spend the money on such a system is in question since ARA seems to want to put Arcade games back in MacGregor. INFO? WHERE? ------------- While the MacGregor locker on Athena is being created--at least I think it is being created--you can still find all sorts of nifty, MacGregor related info online. If you are interested in looking at the MacGregor Constitution or crowding and decrowding policies you can find them in our very own Heather Klaubert's Public directory. They're in DVI format and you can use xdvi to view them. Just attach klaubert and cd /mit/klaubert/Public to find the files. If you'd like to take a look at the Guidebook for MacGregor Residents, Autumn 1993 Edition, you can find that in the mac-tutors locker, Public directory. It is available in both DVI and PostScript format. If you've not seen the Guidebook, I'd encourage you to at least take a look at it since it does contain some pretty useful info and reads easily. OTHER STUFF ----------- New U.A. Reps are needed. It doesn't matter if you don't know anything about the U.A. and would like to serve your dorm, you're welcome to try for the position. MacGregor elects its Reps on a semester basis. How many parties do we want as a dorm this term? What kind of Club Mac do we want to have? Let me know! MacGregor needs a coordinator for visiting pre-frosh who are staying overnight. If you'd like to be it, let me know! If no one else has volunteered, you'll probably get it. That's all for now, --David
