MacGregor House Facilities

MacGregor offers a wide range of facilities for its residents, including our famous MacGregor Convenience store. When the weather outside is frightful (especially during those tough winters), you can still find tons to do without even leaving MacGregor (other than that Pset that’s due tomorrow). The facilities are constantly being improved by the MacGregor House Committee and the House Manager.

MacGregor Convenience Store

It's 1:30 AM and everything on campus is closed - except for MacGregor convenience of course. People from neighboring dorms flock to MacGregor Convenience in the wee hours of the morning to get some much-needed fuel for late night problem set and study sessions. It's great to live in a dorm where a convenience store is right downstairs. Besides having everything from milk to ice cream to detergent to toothpaste, it is open until 2 AM on most nights - great for the MIT rarely-sleep lifestyle. When people yell "CONVENIENCE RUN!" around the entries, it is easy to gather a group to run down together (as seen on the i3 video - that's not an exaggeration!).

Weight Room and Laundry

If you don't feel like running all the way down to the Z-Center to get a workout (or if you don't like being around tons of smelly, sweaty people), we have a professional weight room downstairs, complete with a full collection of free weights, several commercial multi-purpose and isolated muscle machines, two commercial treadmills, two rowing machines, a bicycle, and an elliptical trainer. The weight room is conveniently located right next to our laundry room, so residents often do their laundry and exercise while they wait. MIT students are always looking for ways to optimize their time, so why not do laundry and get a full-body workout at the same time?

Underground Basketball Court

It’s true; the basketball footage in the i3 video was taken in our own underground basketball court, located in the sub-basement. The basketball court is slightly larger than a half-court, which is great for games like hockey, racquetball, or freestyle screaming or music-blasting contests. The walls are crazy thick, and it’s located in the sub-basement so you won't disturb anyone, even if you're really, really, really loud.

The MacGregor weight room will pumpppp you upppp (try to do the Arnold accent)

The laundry room will pumpppp your clothes upppp (that makes no sense, even with the Arnold accent)

Recreation Rooms

We have a fully-stocked rec. room with ping pong, air hockey, and foosball tables, a big TV with an X-Box, and comfy couches so you can sit and play X-Box instead of sitting on the floor. Right next door, we have a movie room with really comfy couches and a big (I mean BIG) TV, VCR, N64, and DVD player coupled with a sweet Bose surround-sound system.

We also have two large spaces (the TFL and dining room) to hold dorm-wide study breaks, parties, and brunches. Individual groups around campus reserve these rooms for their own events as well.

Other Facilities Within MacGregor

  • Darkroom for B&W developing and printing (very dark!)
  • Seminar room for meetings and studying (very official!)
  • Front desk with hundreds of VHS and DVD's for rent (very movie-rific!)
