Welcome to D-Entry

We are a co-ed living group consisting of 32 residents who live on the 4th, 5th, and 6th floors of the MacGregor tower.  All of our rooms are singles and many have wonderful views of the Charles River and the city of Boston.

We have a very diverse mix of interests among our residents.  Some of us love to play sports (the MacGregor athletics chair lives here), others are very talented musicians (we have a piano in one of our suite lounges), some are involved in cultural clubs or student government, there are those of us who can't resist a good dance party, and yes, there are some who can't resist a sleek and sexy computer (ok, maybe just one person - the guy who made the MacGregor i3 video and website).

We have a good balance of majors within our three floors.  There are people here who are majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Biology, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Economics, Management, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Political Science, and Mathematics.  If you already know your MIT Course numbers, that's 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17,  and 18!

We participate in many IM sports such as soccer, tennis, roller hockey, table tennis, volleyball, softball, squash, and badminton.  People of all skill levels are welcome!

Throughout the year, we have a variety of study breaks (with one thing in common - yummy food!), birthday celebrations, and organized entry trips to get away from the world of MIT.

Hiking in New Hampshire

We take a variety of trips during the year to get away from the hectic pace of life at MIT.  We usually go hiking and apple picking in New Hampshire in the fall, skiing in Maine during the winter, and make amusement park trips to places such as Six Flags during the spring.  We are always open to new ideas and suggestions for entry trips.

D-Entry Events

We have study breaks every few weeks or so, always with some sort of good food provided by our GRT (Graduate Resident Tutor).  These are great opportunities to come up to the lounge, play a bit of pool or table tennis (on our brand new table), watch Simpsons or other TV shows together, and hang out with your friends.

One of our biggest study breaks is our annual Thanksgiving dinner.  Members of each suite work together to cook a specific part of the meal and then everyone gets to share in the gluttony of eating major amounts of food.

It's always been D-Entry tradition that we make a cake (or cookie if we run out of cake mix on a particular night) for everyone's birthday.

The D-Entry atmosphere is very casual - you can be as involved (or not involved) in the entry as you would like to be.  It's a lot of fun when people are together and there are always opportunities to hang out with your friends here, but we understand when you have to get work done and know when not to knock on your door.

Life in D-Entry

Sure, we have singles, and we love them.  But in D-Entry we make sure you get out of them.  There are always people in our main lounge playing some pool or table tennis, watching TV, eating take-out food or home-cooked goodies, doing random crafts projects, and maybe occasionally even doing a bit of work.

People in D-Entry are very relaxed, casual, and spontaneous - one minute we're working hard on finishing problem sets or studying for a test, and the next minute we may be taking an impromptu run to the MacGregor Convenience store, making intricate flowers out of common household items (you have to see it to believe it), playing random music on the guitar or piano, busting out Britney Spears dances (only a select few get to do this), using the ceiling pipes as monkey bars, or even having an indoor snowball fight (and then having to clean up after ourselves).

Your Home Away From Home

You can get a great sense of "being at home" when you're here since you get your own personal space in your room and a kitchen and refrigerator right outside your door.  When you're busy with work or personal matters, you can be your own person and nobody will bug you.  However, when you feel like being social, you have all of the amenities of a well-furnished, clean, comfortable college living group - nice suite lounges (with TV's, couches, and even a piano) and a main lounge with pool and ping pong tables, and most importantly, a group of intelligent, enthusiastic, and friendly people around you.

There is a great sense of community in D-Entry.  Upperclassmen are always there to help you with homework, give you advice about what classes to take or how to snag that coveted summer internship, or just be there if you need support or comfort.  It's great to live with compassionate and fun-loving people who have such diverse personalities and interests.

We hope that you have enjoyed this brief introduction to D-Entry.  If you're looking for more information about D-Entry (or just a few quick laughs), please visit our online home page. Does it seem to resemble a popular site on the Internet?  You be the judge.

Of course, you can get the best sense of D-Entry by meeting some of us in person.  Feel free to contact Laurie Stach (Entry chair) or Philip Guo (Social chair / webmaster) if you have any questions.  Have a great summer, and we hope to see you during orientation!
