F-Entry's new tutor, Sandip Biswal, currently has two main ambitions in life. He hopes to become a skilled physician, most likely in orthopedics. Additionally, Biswal also intends to get involved in filming, but that's a goal for much later years.
Starting next term, Sandip will be bringing his appreciation for life to his fellow F-Entry members. Sandip received his undergraduate education at CalTech before joining the HST (Health Sciences and Technology) program here at MIT. Presently, he spends much of his time in building 38 absorbed in arthritis modelling experiments, which are intended to lead to new therapeutic methods.
Besides scholarly pursuits, though, he has made a point to develop other important aspects in his life. Take for instance his eight year interest in making and selling ceramic pottery or his tendency to "moonlight" as a bartender or DJ at college parties during the weekends. Sandip additionally enjoys making videos, especially when an element of comedy is involved. One of his more memorable projects was helping to produce an introductory video viewed by incoming first-year HST students that humorously depicted the life-style here and mocked common stereotypes. He thinks that film is "just a great medium in terms of getting to know other people and group dynamics."
Sandip said he notices the variety inherent to MIT. "I like how everyone is driven academically and in social life as well." He was particularly aware of the outgoing personality of the students he met in F-Entry and wants to bring the entry together with possible activities like mountain bike trips and basketball, some of his favorite physical pastimes. A day of paintball or an outing to see a WWF (World Wrestling Federation) match might also be on the agenda. As he put it, he intends to have fun with his new entry by "examining different parts of American culture."
