In a few weeks Judy and I shall have completed two years as housemasters at MacGregor. During this time we have become friends with a large number of you, having shared in your accomplishments and, at times, your troubles. It is a privilege to be a faculty member in this community, just as it is to be a student. For me, professor stands for "professional student;" those of us on the faculty are constantly learning, as are you.
MacGregor is a different house than it was two years ago. There is a greater respect of students for one another, a greater willingness to accept responsibilities for one's actions, and greater participation by more residents in a wider variety of house activities. Many improvements have been made in the house, largely as a result of the initiative and considerable effort put forth by one or more student residents, often with the help of the graduate residents, house manager, associate housemasters, or housemasters. We are a community that works together, despite the grouping into individual entries, although entry activities are an equally important part of life in MacGregor.
We are interested to hear your new ideas for next year. What housemaster sponsored activities have you liked and which ones should we change? What additional events would you like us to sponsor? Apart from keeping crowding to a minimum, a pressure that is of continued concern, how would you like us to represent your interests to others at the Institute? We encourage you to let us know your desires, either formally in writing or by coming to see us. We wish you a terrific summer and look forward to seeing many of you here in the fall. To the seniors, we wish you much success and happiness in the "real world" beyond MIT _ and don't forget the Mac House Alumni Fund! To the departing tutors, Pavel and Ivka Bystricky and Rob Kassel _ farewell; to the incoming tutors Beth Ebel and Sandip Biswal, welcome. For all those who are leaving, don't forget to visit; MacGregor will always be your home at MIT.
