IEEEtran.cls provides LaTeX formatting for authors of the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Transactions Journals.

The primary distribution site of this IEEEtran.cls collection is:
http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/IEEEtran/
as well as within the IEEE site:
http://www.ieee.org/

Extensive documentation is contained in the source comments of
most of these files. In particular, the first thousand lines or so of
IEEEtran.cls are devoted to usage documentation. PLEASE READ THESE SOURCE
COMMENTS TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO PROPERLY USE THIS NEW IEEEtran.cls. The
itemize, enumerate, and description lists as well as \appendix(ces) have
enhanced controls and work differently from other, older, versions of
IEEEtran.cls.

I certainly hope and wish that all of you will be pleased
with this work.

Special thanks to Peter Wilson (CUA) and Donald Arseneau
for allowing the inclusion of the \@ifmtarg command
from their ifmtarg LaTeX package.

Enjoy! MDS

Note: The ASCII (cls,tex,txt) files use the end-of-line characters for
the system they were created for. Those from .tar archives use UNIX line
feeds, while .zip archives contain ASCII files that use MS Windows line
feeds. Mac users should probably use the .zip archive versions.

IEEEtran_v15.cls
================
8/2001 V1.5 of IEEEtran.cls
V1.5 fixes the bug with the \and operator under \author (useful
with conferences). Also, the problem with short text biography
"collisions" has been corrected. Furthermore, you can now place any
graphic or text of your choice into the biography photo areas via a
new optional argument in \biography! See the source comments for usage
help and for the complete change log.

IEEEtest_v12.tex
===============
8/2001 V1.2 of IEEEtest.tex
This file demonstrates some of the problems with other IEEEtran.cls
files. It also serves as a small example of use. Within this file
is a "backward compatibility code block" that allows .tex files
designed using the features of new IEEEtran.cls to compile under the
older IEEEtran.cls files. This may be of interest to those who want
to compare versions.
The only change from V1.1 to V1.2 is in the backward compatibility
code block to support the new optional argument to \biography provided
by V1.5 and later of IEEEtran.cls.

conf_notes.txt
===============
8/2001 conference notes
This little text file discusses how IEEEtran.cls can be
used for IEEE conferences requiring camera ready work.

app_notes.txt
===============
8/2001 application notes
A text file that has information pertaining to some of the more
obscure usage issues of IEEEtran.cls.

tux.eps
===============
8/2001 sample EPS graphic
This is the Linux Penguin in encapsulated PostScript format.
It is given so that users have a graphic to try for the new
option in the biography of IEEEtran V1.5 and later. This graphic
is in bitmapped (not vector) form and cannot be scaled with impunity -
just like a real photo. It is designed to fit and work perfectly in
the space allocated for the biography photo (1in by 1.25in).
